I think Dems should be red, and Repubs should be blue. But that's just me.

Red Dems and Blue Repub's?!?!
Nooooo. I'm sooooo confused....
I'm getting a headache just thinking about it.
Please change it back :)

We Dems should be red because we're a bunch of pinko commies, ay, Comrade Bowers? Debates have gone back and forth on this one - poor Dave Leip gets asked about this all the time, because he also uses red for Dems and blue for the GOP.
Most media coverage today, of course, refers to GOP areas as "red America" and Dem strongholds as "blue America," so I guess the terms have mostly stuck. Chris is fighting a lonely battle - but as long as his map shows us with leads like that, I don't mind one bit. :)

Back when I was a freshman in high school, I first became interested in politcal analysis and strategy through a classic computer game called "President Elect '88." In the game, Democrats were red and Republicans were blue.
My preference for these colors stems directly from that game (which is still pretty fun). I suppose the first impression is the one that sticks.

I'd love to see that game. Apparently, there's also a classic, hard-to-find game out there which is set in the campaign of 1964 - where Kennedy hasn't been shot. I'd love to see that one, too. Hmm, this seems like a good topic for a DKos diary entry.
By the way, I think the "secure images" shtick only comes up when you're posting comments, not when you're reading them. Or are you getting that error when you try to view the main page of the blog (as a regular viewer) as well?

What is your source for these predictions?

Democrats = Red for being commies
Republicans = Blue for being wealthy bluebloods
Simple as that!

Yahel - Chris has posted his methodology and sources in prior posts. Look for a link anywhere on the main page that says "+ General Election Cattle Call +". That'll take you straight to the GECC archives, where you can read more about how Chris puts his predictions together.
