Evolution of a Lie
Posted by Tim TagarisPresident Bush from the first debate against Senator Kerry.
My message to our troops is, "Thank you for what you're doing. We're standing with you strong. We'll give you all the equipment you need."
Two weeks before the election, when White House Press Secretary Scott McLellan was asked about a letter by General Sanchez in a press gaggle aboard Air Force One.
MR. McCLELLAN: "The President always makes sure that our troops have the resources they need to get the job done. Senator Kerry is the one who opposed giving our troops the equipment and resources they needed when he voted against the $87 billion for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan." [...]
MR. McCLELLAN: Well, the $87 billion provided funding for body armor and other equipment and supplies.
[Question] But you're saying that's why Sanchez wrote the letter in December, and the problem was --
MR. McCLELLAN: All right, we're landing. Sorry. Thanks. I'll continue later.
The President of the United States, four days before the election.
We have increased military pay by over 20 percent since I came into office, and this legislation includes the fourth consecutive pay raise for our service men and women. It funds more protective equipment like body armor and reinforced Humvees to keep our troops as safe as possible.
Donald Rumsfeld, yesterday.
"You go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time."
And the President, today.
President Bush said on Thursday U.S. troop concerns about inadequate equipment for Iraq combat are being addressed...

The old left-wing trick of demanding perfection, thus making a good accomplishment look bad. It wasn't determined that we needed armored humvees until after the street fighting started. Armor weighs down the machine making it slower and less efficient travel radius. Remember the hummers racing across the desert in desert storm and the taking of Iraq?
Now we face a different enemy at closer range. Today, 4 out of 5 hummers in Iraq are armored. More are on the way. Production went from 15 per month to 450 permonth today. This is a great accomplishment for the army and the commander in chief.
Your howls of protest are typical of the lieing left disagreeing witheverything this administration has done regardless of the facts.
What Rumsfeld said is exactly right. You go with the best you have. Pure common sense for someone who has to deal in the real world. Show me one American hating left-winger that warned the administration 2 years ago that we needed a lot more armored hummer. Leftists are great predictors after the fact. They always demand perfection from their apponents when they have been abysmal failures at the things they try ( the great society, education, etc.) You go with what you got. The only thing you've got is whining, unfair criticizum.
