OH-02: A Candidate for Everyone
Posted by Bob BrighamSo here I am, sitting out back at Hackett HQ with the candidate and Meghan Gaffney. An older gentleman walked across the yard to shake Hackett's hand. He announced that he was a lifelong Republican, but would be voting for Hackett. Meghan and I both smiled, knowing that he isn't alone. It is time to send an Iraq War Veteran to Congress.

I have complete faith in Hackett, but this anecdote illustrates one important point beyond that he is an excellent candidate.
EVERY TIME we run a credible candidate in a district we might have otherwise written off, we open someone's eyes to the possibility that Democrats have something to offer. Win or lose, you ensure that in the future, they'll pay closer attention to what both parties have to say.
Some of us look at those big swatches of red on the map and assume they represent a foreign land, where everyone is a 100% Bush loyalist and Democrats have no hope. It's just not so. But to have any chance at getting their votes, we have to ask for them.
