Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

Posted by Bob Brigham

The Hotline has third quarter numbers:

The National Republican Campaign Committee maintained the bigger bank account this quarter, ending the fundraising period with $17.7 million. It raised $12.6 million.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee took in $9 million, spent some, and ended the quarter with $11.3 million on hand.

Also, Rolling Stone has a profile on Congressman Rahm Emanuel, David Sirota has a scathing rebuttal.

I'll keep this short and sweet.

Rahm Emmanuel is an idiot.

Sirota makes the very same mistake so often made by others, assuming that "official Democratic policy" comes from the DCCC.

Nobody likes a poser, of course, so it's easy to let Rahm Emanuel rub you the wrong way when he agrees to allow someone to do a puff piece on him. But really, you've got to laugh when a would-have-been "Washington elite" moves out of the city and suddenly begins bloviating about how the "Washington elites" are always bloviating.

Emanuel makes a target of convenience, because the big, glossy spread was about him. But maybe that's why David has had so little success in actually making inroads with policy-makers. He's too easily distracted by targets of convenience (perhaps because he can borrow their spotlights), and spends too little time (at least in public) prevailing upon the people who can actually make the changes he wants made.

It may be that he senses that he can't get through to them, either. But it could also just be that that doesn't sell books.

In fairness, it's my understanding that Emmanuel is working on a Contract with America-like campaign platform. Now, it may be not be the decisive contrasting document we need or it may be. I'll wait till I see it before attacking the guy.
