OH-02: SSP in Mother Jones' Hackett Stories
Posted by Bob BrighamMother Jones posted their cover story on the OH-02 Special Election:
The Ohio Insurgency: The Democrat who Fought
Major Paul Hackett came home from Iraq to launch an assault on a GOP stronghold. Can Democrats follow his lead?
By David Goodman
They have now also posted a companion piece that provides a timeline of blog support for Paul Hackett:
The Digital Insurgency
How liberal bloggers and their readers fueled Paul Hackett's rise
By Jonathan Stein
On Election Night, I mentioned this was coming. Thoughts?

The timeline is a fun, blow-by-blow read.

Yeah, I love that they put together the timeline (even if it doesn't mention Joe Braun). There was also a post from Atrios that was one of my favorites from the election, showing a picture of Schmidt and a picture of Hackett with a .50 caliber on his lap, asking who do you trust to keep you safe when the balls attack. As always, he needed mayber 20 words to drive home his point. Also, Tim's perfect smackdown of the swift boating was a defining event.

Fun... I'd like to see it annotated more. You could add three times as many links to things.

I know. I keep wanting to click on certain things - especially things I didn't know about at the time, or don't recall now.

This would be great to see in a Wiki...

The mother jones article was a good laugh. The best insight for outsiders as to what it was like on the ground. I imagine their readership really doesn't like DC because that was a slap in the face of the party establishment.
I also enjoyed the in-your-face fuck you portrait of Hackett at the polls on Election Day. Very real indeed.
Bob you’re an ‘insurgent’ star, even if we don’t agree about his Senate run.

I'd just like to add that Paul Hackett can still inspire this sort of effort. There are many of us just waiting for the word that this senate race is a go.
The coverage Atrios gave the congressional campaing was amazing. It made the entire effort feel like a huge celebration. I don't mean to discount the efforts of anyone else, of course.

I don't know if Atrios wrote 200 words then entire time, but yeah, he pulled it off. And what about Crooks and Liars with the video? And what about all of the diaries on Kos and MyDD? And the blogswarms? It was something that should make everyone proud.

Fantastic reads, especially the blow-by-blow recap. I could really feel the energy of the campaign and the sheer joy of the moment. It was like watching NFL films doing the highlights for your team after a great season. Made me feel like I was young and a Democrat all over again.
It would be awesome to carry this feeling through all of 2006.

Good news, peeps. It appears that Mike DeWine's war chest is going to be opened long before he faces off against Paul Hackett:

I think the DeWine Haters have found a legitimate challenger. Perhaps we should encourage this?

Bob, I know Atrios didn't use a lot of words -- he's a master at that. :) I agree, John's video at Crooks&Liars was fantastic, as they all are! I spend some of my own personal 'down time' hanging out with the other commenters at Eschaton, and I suppose I was really speaking of that atmosphere.

It didn't take more than a few words from Atrios to take down my entire site.
