A Blog in Every District, Part 2

Posted by DavidNYC

Last week, I endorsed Kossack Peacenik23's idea for a blog in every district. Today, I'm gonna highlight a few (though I won't be including individual campaign blogs). Have a look:

Take 19 - Devoted to ousting Republican Sue Kelly from New York's 19th district, not far north of New York City.

Dump Mike - Targeting Republican Mike Ferguson in the NJ-07, which is also not far from NYC.

OH-12 - Names don't get much clearer than this. The incumbent here is Republican Pat Tiberi. I'm especially touched by this effort, because Brian Guilfoos (the author) specifically cited my original post as his inspiration. Awesome!

11th District Demolition - Heh, nice name. They're gonna "demolish" Thaddeus McCotter, the Republican incumbent in MI-11.

Say No to Pombo - A name that would make Nancy Reagan proud, after a fashion. The notoriously corrupt Richard Pombo currently spreads his odiousness in CA-11.

Dump Doolittle - Goal: Get rid of John Doolittle from CA-04. Oh, and have you guys met Dump Mike yet?

If you know of any others, please let us know in comments. And if your district doesn't appear to have one but ought to, start a blog! Blogger (aka Blogspot) is free and super-easy to use. There's no time like the present.

So, when you first posted this, I thought to myself "What a great idea". Then the next thought was "what can the blogosphere do with this?"

How about we work towards creating a blog (I would do it, although I don't know if my programming knowledge is high enough), to collect the links and catalouge each of these blogs. To tie that together, perhaps make an RSS feed on the blog to highlight recent posts - an almost constantly running commentary of our attempts to cover all the races.

The blog wouldn't be focused on recruitment of blogs for the various districts - just as a central repository for those that exist.

Thoughts?

Don't forget the Connecticut district blogs. The state party has set up a separate blog for each of the three Congressional districts currently held by Republicans.

Second CD Watch http://2cd.lonseidman.com/ covers Rob Simmons.

Fifth District Watch http://ct05.net/ covers Nancy Johnson.

Shayswatch http://www.shayswatch.com covers Chris Shays and CT-04. That one hasn't been updated in about 5 months, but will be up and running again in the next week.

The Connecticut state party has set up a blog in each Republican-held district to hold those congressmen's feet to the fire.

http://ct05.net/ -- Nancy Johnson, CT-05

http://2cd.lonseidman.com/ -- Rob Simmons, CT-02

http://jgrr.blogspot.com Covers KS-3 but also has a larger Kansas focus.

http://www.theantisam.com Is my baby and does cover a Senator (Brownback), but I thought I would plug it anyway.

http://firephilkline.blogspot.com Is for the Kansas Attorney General race next year which is looking to be a great fight. An influential county DA switched parties to run against Phill Kline.

Whoops. That would be http://firephillkline.blogspot.com the extra "L" in Phill gets me every time. Which is precisely why firephilkline.com and firephillkline.com both point to the same page.

PAProg: A fellow SSP reader is actually working on such a project right now. I think he'll have a preliminary version ready to unveil soon.

I'm not sure if the site is still being updated, but Texas 21 is devoted to discussion of TX-21, currently the seat of Rep. Lamar Smith (R).

Thanks for the shout out. I've gotten dozens of hits from SSP readers. Hopefully they found something useful.

Have to call off the 11th district demo, the blogger bailed, it's an awesome name though, i hope somebody picks it up. If you're looking for your michigan fix, wait a few weeks, we're going to have at least a few congressional blogs going strong.

Thanks to Nate for the shout out. While I live in the KS-3 and focus on that, in the absence of anyone (that I know of) covering the KS-2, I've also been keeping an eye on that race. Hell, Thoughts from Kansas will also watch the KS-01 if John Doll's challenge takes off.

Hotpants: Great work!

OH-02: Geranium, maybe? :) Seriously, though we've given you much love in the past, I am remiss in not including you. I will be sure to do so in my next installment.

Yes... I am a hot house flower.

Much love to SSP. You guys have been great. Especially when my server melted down.

Great idea of promoting this. I think we've made the case that it can be very productive.

Hmmmmm.... Maybe a good place for a "Central Repository" for all the 435 District Blogs would be over at the Dkospoedia...?

http://www.dkosopedia.com/index.html/Main_Page

A wiki would seem a good format for organizing that...

A reader just alerted me to King Watch, covering one of my prime targets for 2006: Pete King of NY-03, the last Republican on now-solidly Democratic Long Island. It's way, way, way past time for him to get the heave-ho.
