HI-02: Candidate Run-Down

Posted by DavidNYC

When a Democrat in a heavily Dem district (or a GOPer in a heavily Republican district) decides to move on, there's always a mad scramble to replace him. With Rep. Ed Case's absurd decision to challenge Sen. Daniel Akaka in the Democratic primary, a huge number of potential candidates have emerged. Skaje has written a diary to help you keep track of all the players.

I'm hopeing that Case jumps into the Govenors race instead of the senate.

That's a bit like how I hoped Suozzi would jump into NY-03 instead of the Gov race - wishful thinking.

Granted, if you want an opportunity to tilt the 110th congress to the left some more, this is one of the better ideas. Either here, or TN-09 (Where Harold Ford managed to plow down the middle in a district which Kerry won by a 3 to 1 margin).

better ideas?

"better places to do it" could be a bit more coherant.

I think Ford was thinking of Running statewide ever since he won his house seat. I think that has a lot to do with his middle of road record.

RBH: An interesting post would be an assessment of all the Dem open seats.

Not to mention viable primary challenges to progressive Democrats--B. Thompson in Mississippi is facing a viable challenge from a young, more conservative state representative, I believe (names Espy or Espry, I forget).

I would probably guess that Harold Ford Jr. has a long record of being ambitious. So yeah, he's been voting in a way to keep himself safe for a statewide race.

As for Thompson/Espy. There might be some "red flags" on Espy's record as a State Rep. But being 'more conservative' than Thompson doesn't actually mean too much right now.

Granted, I'd prefer not having to spend DCCC money in that race. I prefer that the party remember that priority #1 is winning more seats, not beating back primary challenges.
