Quarterly Fundraising Reports Open Thread
Posted by DavidNYCBecause the quarterly deadline (the 15th) falls on a Saturday, campaigns actually have to get their reports in to the FEC today. That means that many campaigns (mostly those which feel they've done well) will be releasing their numbers to the public today. For the rest, we'll have to wait until the FEC cranks out the official tallies next week. What numbers have you seen so far, both for House and Senate candidates? Please post `em in comments, with links where available. Here are a few I've seen:
CT-05: Chris Murphy
1Q Raised: $335,000
Cash-on-Hand: $650,000
(Incumbent Nancy Johnson raised $449K and has $2.47M cash-on-hand, which is a ton.)NY-20: Kirsten Gillibrand
1Q Raised: $345,000
(Incumbent John Sweeney raised $368,000.)TN-Sen: Harold Ford
1Q Raised: $1.5M
Cash-on-Hand: $2.2M
(Opponent Bob Corker raised $770K but has $4.4M cash-on-hand. There are two other GOPers running as well.)CT-04: Diane Farrell
1Q Raised: $515K (wow!)
Cash-on-hand: $832K
(Incumbent Chris Shays raised $372K, the second quarter in a row he's raised less than Farrell. He has $1.1M cash-on-hand.)
I'll add more to the list as we come across them.
UPDATE: I'm most interested in R-incumbent or R-open seats, and at-risk D seats. Some more:
AZ-08: Patty Weiss
1Q Raised: $183K
(This is a very crowded primary for Jim Kolbe's open seat.)IL-08: Melissa Bean
1Q Raised: $536K
Cash-on-hand: $1.75M (that's a lot)
(Opponent David McSweeney, a wealthy self-funder, only has $147K cash-on-hand and owes vendors $400K from his primary race.)SD-AL: Stephanie Herseth
1Q Raised: $128K
Cash-on-hand: $631K
(Opponent Bruce Whalen will not file an FEC report this quarter. That means he hasn't even raised or spent $5,000! Thought you might like that one.)
Today's House Race Hotline was an invaluable resource for compiling this update.

Any word on Tester? The FEC has nothing. Do they not need to file until after the June primaries?

The only states which had an exemption were IN, OH and NC. MT is due at the same time as all the other remaining 47. But most campaigns won't say anything until next week.

(Santorum did not release his numbers)

John Ensign started the quarter with over $2 million

Former State Senator Gabrielle Giffords is the Democratic candidate to beat in Arizona's primary for the open R held CD-8. She raised an impressive $314,893 in the first quarter, and a total of $562,830 so far, trouncing all opponents. She also just picked up the endorsement of the huge, most diverse law enforcement union in the state which boast almost 7,000 members. See link.

Btw, Jim Pederson just put $2 million of his own money in his race for senate. Makes me wonder, is this good news or bad news?
I am afraid his campaign is in disarray.

NV CD-03: Tessa Hafen
1Q Raised: $369,000
Her first quarter taking money. Versus the incumbent Republican, Porter, raising $410k this quarter, bringing his total to $1.7 million. Bush will be heading to do a fundraiser for him this month as well. Yes, there is a protest planned. :)
NV CD-02: Jill Derby
1Q Raised: $190,000
Cash-on-hand: $350,000
Awesome. Very good for a rural seat which is almost never seriously contested by a Dem. She raised more this quarter than one of her main Republican contenders (see link)

Left in the West is saying that Tester came up with $230K. The DSCC wanted him to come up with $150K to stay in the race. It sounds low, and it is, but these are the cheap seats. Still, he needs to learn how to raise more money than that if he is going to beat Morrison.

VT-AL: Peter Welch (D)
1Q raised: $260,000 (Total: $740,000)
Martha Rainville (R)
1Q raised: $218,972
This article details where Rainville's money has come from--the majority of it is from PAC sources, including large sums coming from the PACs of Hastert, Blunt, Boehner. And yet, here's Rainville's money quote:
“I am a Republican,” she said to an enthusiastic crowd at the St. Albans kick-off event. “But candor compels me to say that some of the Republicans in control of the House have lost their way. In doing so, they have lost the respect of many Americans. Together, we can begin to restore a respectable Congress.”
Mmm-hmm. Funded by the very same people who you say have "lost their way", Martha?

MT-AL: Monica Lindeen (D)
1Q raised: $97,383 (total: $259,622)
CoH: $154,366
Denny Rehberg (R)
1Q raised: $119,963 (total: $548,417)
CoH: $525,465

NJ-05: Scott Garrett (R)
1Q raised: $139,693
CoH: $375,677
Paul Aronsohn (D)
1Q raised: $213,995
CoH: $135,125
Interestingly, this came from an article that had In 5th District, incumbent takes lead in fundraising as its headline. Wouldn't the more appropriate headline be the fact that Aronsohn outraised the incumbent in the first quarter? Here's the link.
And here's the link for the MT-AL numbers: linky.

I'm sleepy, so now I'll just cut and paste:
In New Jersey, Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez raised $2.5 million for his 2006 campaign in the first three months of the year, while Republican challenger Tom Kean Jr. raised about $1.6 million.
Menendez has $6.36 million on hand, compared to about $2 million for Kean.
Found it buried in this article.

RI-Sen:
Bad news for Matt Brown--he only has $35,000 CoH that he can spend on the primary (he's got another $320,000, but that can only be spent on the general election campaign). Whitehouse has $1.8 million CoH--$1.3 million of which can be spent on the primary.
Brown raised $350,000 in the 1Q and spent $480,000. Whitehouse raised $530,000 ans spent $285,000.
Numbers from this article. No numbers for Chaffee 'n' Laffey yet.

On Nevada
I totally agree with mbcarl. These numbers are extremely good. When comparing Q1 numbers of Hafen and Porter you need to take into account that Hafen only needed six weeks (started her campaign on Feb 20) to raise nearly as much as Porter did in the entire quarter. And that without the help of any bigshots and mostly in individual contributions.
Also agree with Nev 2. Jill Derby has great polling numbers against the most likely Republican nominee Dawn Gibbons (wife of current congressman Jim Gibbons) Derby 33, Gibbons 37. And this in a Republican district. This is really one to watch out for. Link for the numbers: http://www.lasvegasgleaner.com/las_vegas_gleaner/2006/04/hart_numbers.html

Derby's 190K is also the most raised by anyone in the race so far in a single quarter.
Schweitzer came into NV a few months ago and did a great event with her. NV 2 is exactly the kind of seat we need to win this year.

In VA-05 Al Weed out fund-raised the incumbent Virgil "MZM-Scandal" Goode this quarter!
Al Weed (D): 65,333.61
Virgil Goode (R): 51,228.44
This is the anti-war, pro-choice, pro-gay candidate running in southside Virginia. Sounds like suicide but he's got to be doing something right.
