FL-Sen: Bense Not Running
Posted by DavidNYCWell whaddya know. Alan Bense just said today that he will NOT run for FL-Sen. I think I oughta stay out of the predictions business! Anyhow, I can certainly understand why Bense isn't interested. It's a seriously uphill fight, and he's got little name rec. All I can say now is, go Kathy Harris!

This could explain the chummy atmosphere between Gov. Jeb and Lady Harris on the tarmac -- if Jeb knew Bense was out, he needs to be nice to Harris even if he did just say she can't win.

I heard on NPR's Talk of the Nation an interesting comment from Ken Rudin(?) in the Political Junkie segment. He said that he thought that Bense is aware of the fact that ever since Claude Pepper was last elected to the Senate back in the 40s, only candidates from southern Florida get elected to the US Senate. Bense is from the panhandle. Rudin speculated that he realizes that he lacks the name recognition in the southern Florida metro areas to be able to win.

So glad to hear this. Hopefully Kathy will be the one and only GOP candidate and maintain the comedy value right through election day!
