TN: Other Results From The Tennessee Primary
Posted by RBHYour winner in the 9th District is Steve Cohen.
Steve Cohen: 29
Nikki Tinker: 27
Joe Ford Jr: 14
The Other 11: 30
Cohen's 2004 TN Sen NPAT shows him as being more liberal than Harold Ford Jr, and barring some giant surge for Independent candidate Jake Ford, Cohen should win this election easily.
The winner in TN-01 appears to be David Davis.
The November matchups in Tennessee
TN-01: David Davis (R) v. Morristown City Councilman Rick Trent (D)
TN-02: Rep. Jimmy Duncan (R) v. John Greene (D)
TN-03: Rep. Zach Wamp (R) v. Brent Benedict (D)
TN-04: Rep. Lincoln Davis (D) v. Ken Martin (R)
TN-05: Rep. Jim Cooper (D) v. Tom Kovach (R)
TN-06: Rep. Bart Gordon (D) v. David R. Davis (R)
TN-07: Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R) v. Bill Morrison (D)
TN-08: Rep. John Tanner (D) v. John Farmer (R)
TN-09: Steve Cohen (D) v. Mark White (R)
No switches are expected though. I think the only real primary surprise would be Benedict beating Terry Stulce. But then again, it probably says more for Stulce that he spent $47K and lost to someone who hasn't filed an FEC report.
I'd love to see more Tennessee results, but their official page hasn't posted results due to late returns. Yes, seriously.

Nobody has touched the issue in the lefty blogosphere, but I think Lincoln Davis of TN-04 needs to be called out as a blue wingnut over his ridiculous proposal to felonize adulterers last month. If any Republican had said something so unimaginably stupid, we'd be having a field day criticizing it. I realize we had to hold our noses and support Davis considering his district is increasingly inhospitable to Democrats, but I feel obliged to at least call him out for his wingnuttery. Lecture over.

Good news for adulterers and divorcees!
"U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis was trying to make a point — and not being serious — on the House floor Tuesday when he proposed outlawing divorce and adultery.
But not everyone picked up on his use of sarcasm.
The Pall Mall Democrat's straight-on delivery during the House debate on gay marriage, broadcast live on C-SPAN, left many believing he was serious. The remarks, and video of them, have ping-ponged throughout political blogs on the Internet and prompted calls to his office from all over the country.
"The intent of the congressional speech was not to say that he intends to introduce legislation making divorce and adultery a felony," said Davis spokesman Tom Hayden. "Rather the intent was to point out the purely partisan nature and timing of the" constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage."
Then again, his speech did go over his "idea" for nine paragraphs. I haven't seen the video, but i'm thinking it was probably the dryest sarcasm to hit DC in years.

"Cohen's 2004 TN Sen NPAT shows him as being more liberal than Harold Ford Jr.."
There's an understatement and then some. Cohen IS a liberal. Progressives in TN are pretty damn excited about the prospects of Steve Cohen in Congress. The obvious reason being that we would actually have some representation in Washington for a change.

"U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis was trying to make a point — and not being serious — "
Pure unadulterated baloney. He changed his story after the national reviews came in. If you think this man is capable of satire, you haven't been watching him very closely:

Yeah, Lincoln probably just isn't any good at satire.
Now, if there was an intercontinental weapons system to protect marriage, then that would be an easy sell to the GOP. ;)

The funny thing is that it is widely rumored in the TN-04 that Lincoln gets around quite a bit.
Stulce's loss was pretty surprising. I thought he could get 40% or so, which Benedict won't do.
A mini-surpise in the Tn-04 primary, Pedigo was thought to be the no-brainer nominee, but he got beat by 10 points. Goes to show you never know about these low interest primaries.

Steve Cohen in fact looks like a splendid candidate.
No matter what happens in the Senate race it may well be
that electing Cohen in Ford's place is a gain.
People have been saying it's a 'blue-safe' seat
even if the other Democratic candidates sulk and withhold support,
and I hope that's true. But Harold Ford's brother Jake is preparing to run as an Independent.
I can't assess how much support he'll draw from Steve Cohen,
but I've put Cohen on my ActBlue page and hope to raise a little money for him just in case:

Good news on Cohen's win from my POV, am concerned about Jake Ford's candidacy, given the demographics of the district (59.5% black)and his obvious ties to his Congressman brother. Has any of this Ford Family ethics scandal hit this Ford (Jake)? If its any indication of Ford family pulling power, Harold Ford's cousin Joe Ford Jr. only pulled 12% in the Dem primary.

On Lincoln Davis, good for him. I've been saying for ages now that the best comeback to the "Sancity of Marriage" argument is to fly the idea of banning Divorce and enforcing adultery as a crime. Give the Christian right the works on a silver platter and tie the argument to this and the general population will hopefully see how phoney the whole sancity argument really is.
It cuts both ways. Throw the Gop's talking points right back in their faces.
