KS-03: Dennis Moore (D) retiring after current term

Dennis Moore announced he will not be seeking re-election in next year’s midterms.  An official statement has not been released but he will do so today citing his reasons.

This could be a tough hold for the Dems as I’m sure the GOP will see this as a prime pick-up opportunity.

Nick Jordan, the GOP nominee for 2008 is rumoured to run again.  Charlotte O’Hara and Greg Musil are also rumoured to be interested as well.

Currently, there are 3 GOP candidates actively campaigning for the seat but none of the 3 seem to be considered star recruits.

Details are in the article linked above.

  1. Not that I think the GOP is going to have too much trouble here with a half-way decent candidate given the way 2010 is shaping up. It would probably take a real superstar for Team Blue to hold on to this one.

  2. I agree, the Democrats don’t really seem to have anyone waiting in the wings anyway, and this would be a tough hold in any situation.  Too bad.

  3. This is going to be very, very difficult to defend. I really hope this isn’t the start of a trend. The worse thing for the D’s would be blue dogs retiring this cycle.

  4. Well, this really sucks. Of all the blue dogs to lose, it’s a fairly liberal one and probably the only Dem who could hold that seat in 2010. Unless a Phill Kline-type gets the nomination this should be an easy win for the GOP. The Kansas GOP finally got their act together and with Sebelius gone, Moore was the only thing the Kansas Democratic Party had going for them.
