NY-Gov: NY Papers Say That Paterson Will Pull Plug on Re-Election Bid

From the Post and the Daily News:

Embattled Gov. Paterson has pulled the plug on his election bid, a source close to the governor said Friday.

Paterson will announce the decision later Friday.

Paterson has been under fire for having contacted a woman who accused one of his top aides of domestic violence.

The source said the governor has agreed not to seek election, but he will not resign – opting to serve out the remainder of his term.

The Post adds that a retirement announcement should come down between 11:30am and 12:30pm. Is our long New York nightmare finally over?

(UPDATE) (David): It’s official – Paterson won’t run this fall.

  1. and paterson finally getting the picture, things are finally looking up.  how long til Mr. Cuomo announces?

  2. Albany is one of the most dysfunctional state governments around today. What good will changing a governor do? The only thing Dems can celebrate is Andrew Cuomo hanging onto the governorship in November, after that it will be disappointment after disappointment.

  3. that he was open to talking to his fellow party members about dropping out.

Guess it did happen.  After all announcing something means that it has like an 80% chance of happening already.

  4. There’s no reason why a state as Democratic as New York should still be saddled with a guy who’s tied in the polls with Rick freaking Lazio.

Dems are going to be hit harder in the governorships, IMO, than anywhere else, and it’s good to see this one seat finally firm up in the right direction, even if it was (somewhat) expected.

  5. …began with Spitzer, long before his rendezvous with Ashley Duprè. I really want to know what Cuomo will or can do that would make Albany less dysfunctional. I’m glad he’s (highly likely) going to be the nominee, but I fear he’s just going to inherit the “kick me” sign on his back that Paterson is currently wearing.
