Weekly Open Thread: What Races Are You Interested In?

I think you and I are destined to do this forever.

UPDATE (David): Please take the Swing State Project’s annual Blogad reader survey. This survey helps potential advertisers learn more about the site and the blogosphere in general. The better information they have, the more ads they are likely to run, which helps ensure we can keep the lights on here at SSP. So if you can spare just a few minutes, we’d be grateful if you could take the survey. Thanks so much!

  1. Now that there are a couple promising early polls for him, I’m hoping that Tweety runs, and somehow by some incredible miracle wins this thing.

Because THAT WOULD GET HIM OFF OF MY TV and in the Senate where we wouldn’t see nearly as much of him 😉

(And I’d tip my hat to all Pennsylvanians for your sacrifice for the rest of the country)

  2. I can hardly wait to see those CD results for Obama! I’d like to have a better idea on where Harry Reid’s campaign should target & which Gubernatorial candidate stands the best chance of beating Gibbons (or Heller, should he primary Gibbons & win). Oh yes, and I want to see how blue my likely new hometown is! 😉

  3. CA-Supreme Court: I’ve been hearing conflicting legal analyses on the Prop H8 case. Some lawyers say it’s “a loser”, while others say we have an awfully strong case. Perhaps it’s somewhere inbetween, but it just reminds me that we need to be ready to fight for equality in 2010 no matter how the court decides.

CA-Gov: OK, most of you will LOVE this. My sources now say Dianne Feinstein will not run for Governor! If this is the case, then (IMHO) we need to get behind LG John Garamendi ASAP. If Villaraigosa & Newsom & Brown rip each other apart in the primary, then Garamendi may just slip past all of them. If Gray Davis could do in 1998, then so can Garamendi in 2010!

CA-Sen: I’m still waiting to see who else will step up to be the sacrificial lamb that Barbara Boxer will slaughter.

AZ-Gov: Is AG Terry Goddard still running? Jan Brewer scares the bejezzis out of me!

AZ-Sen: Do we have a candidate? Any candidate?

  4. I started last night. I did TX-12 (West Tarrant County, Kay Granger) last night. It was fun once I found the precinct results and could divide up the county.

I’m really looking forward to cracking Apart TX-24 (Kenny Marchant) TX-26 (Michael Burgess), and TX-32 (Pete Sessions)in D/FW then start making my way towards Houston and see how TX-22 (Olson) TX-14 (Paul), TX-7 (Culberson) and TX-10 (McCaul) came out. I’m expecting some big movements in all of those.

TX-17 (Chet Edwards) should also be really good based on the preliminary numbers.

TX-21 (Lamar Smith), TX-23 (Ciro) and TX-25 (Doggett) could be interesting, but not ground shaking.

  5. MN-Sen isn’t over but I’m already exited about the MN-GOV race. R.T. Rybak has said he will make up his mind in the next two weeks or so and Chris Coleman is running for re-election and thus probably out.

Also a Draft Rybak effort has been launched.

It’s going to be a very big and contested primary, will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

  6. Poll came out recently showing it close. I do hope someone comes out as the front-runner early on because I want to help the Dems win the seat I just don’t know enough about the candidates to pick since I’m not from Virginia.

  7. I love that movie!

I’m most interested in NC-Sen (of course), NH-Sen and VA-Gov. Also, I can’t end this comment without wondering when the hell Rod Blagojevich is going to get out of the governor’s office.

  8. http://www.politico.com/blogs/

“I don’t really know if he has made up his own decision…..he would be the strongest Democratic candidate without any doubt because he is so well known, because of his ability to raise money around the nation, he would be a strong candidate but Arlen Specter is very tough to beat in a general election cause he’s had a bond with suburban Democrats, Philadelphia Democrats, and he does very well with independent and those moderate Republicans.”

  9. On Friday, Rep. Nydia Velazquez (NY-12), issued a statement withdrawing from consideration for appointment to the NY Senate seat:

“While I have been proud and humbled to be considered, I have decided to stay as a senior member of the House of Representatives, chair of the Small Business Committee, and chair of the Hispanic Caucus.”

  10. election results.  The NY board of Elections says it was McCain 77977, Obama 76558 which would roughly be a McCain win of 50.5 to 49.5, excluding 3rd party votes.  But all news outlets and daily kos show the result to be a much wider 80853 to 73192 or 52 to 47 McCain win.  My gut says go with the Board of Elections results, but does anyone know for sure?

  11. I’m most interested in watching the big New York races.  With both Senate seats up and the Governorship, I wonder if upstate will tolerate downstaters all of these positions.
