IL-Sen: Burris Won’t Seek Full Term in 2010

So says the Chicago Sun-Times:

Sneed has learned U.S. Sen. Roland Burris has decided NOT to seek election to the seat he fought the government to keep.

Sen. Burris is planning to announce his decision Friday by issuing a statement to the press. But he’s reportedly not planning to field any questions from the press.

The decision by Burris was based on his inability to raise campaign funds; campaign disclosures with the Federal Election Commission are expected to be filed next week…and he has reportedly only raised approximately $20,000

Presumably Burris is also seeking an early exit in order to spend more time with his mausoleum.

  1. But it’s good to know that there’s no chance that we’ll have to worry about the possibility of having to defend Burris…

  2. Seriously, who decided in this economy, the best thing they could do with a thousand dollars is give it to Burris?

  3. I always believed Burris would not run.He was doomed to

lose the primary.Kirk needed Burris In order to win.

Don’t be surprised to see Obama support Chris Kennedy If he runs.

  4. now people on this blog can stop pretending he could make it through a primary or garner even more than 5% in it.  Whenever IL-Senate came up, I was always surprised people even factored Burris into that equation.

  5. he is going to get demolished, badly.  But that won’t stop pundits from constantly talking him up and acting like he has a chance.

  6. Given his abysmal fundrasing numbers, I’m not surprised Burris is dropping out. I wonder if this means our primary will become even more crowded, now that the risk of Burris winning is gone.

Any guesses on who else will jump in?

BTW, what’s with all these references to a mausoleum?
