Redistricting Contest Coming Soon!

Exciting news, folks: Thanks to the hard work of Dave and Jeffmd, Dave’s Redistricting App now has political data for the state of New York. Just like with Maryland, when you create your new New York maps, you’ll be able to see the Obama-McCain percentage for each district.

With this new feature launched, SSP plans to hold a redistricting contest in the near future. Dave has asked, though, that everyone kick the tires a bit before we officially begin the contest. So head on over to the app and test out the new NY data – and then stay tuned for a more detailed announcement from us soon!

  1. appear to be college students (not me but several others) who have final exams next week.

As such, I would suggest that this contest start no earlier than next Friday.

  2. Because the Unknown and I can make some pretty killer GA maps. Also the MD maps and other states have been very impressive. Ok back to studying RE Finance fml.

  3. Linux….. I know I know, Moonlight is supposed to work as an open source Silverlight alternative, but I keep getting the “install Silverlight” icon when I try starting the app. Well, I get that far in Firefox, not nearly as far in Opera.

I do have XP in a dual boot, but can’t justify rebooting just for this, as I’m trying to prep to teach my first course.

  4. I’ve got Windows capability, but I dont buy the internet at my apt so I dont have it for my deskptop, but I can move my laptop anywhere but it doesnt have the Windows partition.

Or am I just stupid and dont know where to look on the app….  I remember seeing a comment referring to apple and it’s ability to work, as I dont see anything really popping up that says, hey Im political numbers!  Although Im known to not read directions.

  5. Perhaps we can do a project to match precincts with voting district, using SSP to coordinate to divide data, etc.

  6. I might be alone in this but can we please avoid making this site “State Redistricting Project” if at all possible?

  7. My vote would be:

    – to make a 28-0 map,

    – meeting VRA requirements,

    – with all D incumbents in their districts, and

    – with the boundaries of 4 non-adjacent districts in Manhattan & Long Island rejiggered so that the map clearly reads ‘I {heart} NY’.
