Sarah Steelman forming exploratory committee for Senate run

JEFFERSON CITY – A source close to Sarah Steelman told the Political Fix today that the former state treasurer has enlisted Washington, D.C., lawyer Ben Ginsberg to form an exploratory committee for a run for U.S. Senate.

Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post’s “The Fix” blog first reported the news via his Twitter feed.

Steelman has been talking about the race for a couple of months. This week, her new Web site made its debut, and while it didn’t mention a Senate run, it referred to two social networking sites that said “Sarah Steelman for Senate.”

Steelman would face Republican Congressman Roy Blunt in a primary. Blunt announced he would run for the seat being vacated by Sen. Kit Bond shortly after Bond announced he wouldn’t seek re-election in 2010. But Blunt’s first quarter fund-raising fell far short of Democrat Robin Carnahan’s totals.

NC-sen Roy Cooper and GLBT rights (well one right)

The one tidbit I was able to find in this regard, for readers’ information, was listed on Equality NC’s rundown of 2004 achievements (emphasis added by me):

“Fulfilling a campaign promise to Equality NC PAC, Attorney General Roy Cooper issued a non-discrimination policy for the Department of Justice that includes sexual orientation. He is the first statewide elected official to adopt such a policy in North Carolina.”

I hope he runs and beats Burr.

Roy Moore, Alabama’s “Ten Commandments judge,” says he’s likely to run for governor

http://blog.al.com/spotnews/20…

Moore told the Associated Press that he plans to announce his decision June 1. That’s when he could start raising money for the Republican primary in June 2010.

“Right now I’m very inclined to enter. I feel there is a need, and I feel I’m well qualified for the position,” he said.

Moore, 62, garnered just 33 percent of the GOP primary vote when he ran against Gov. Bob Riley in 2006. But Riley can’t run again in 2010.

-He may very well become the gov as Alabama is very red.:(
