The National trend is the NC trend in EVERY one of these !!

Dems won the Senate race in NC in '86 and '98, which were Democratic years nationally.
Helms early wins were all strong GOP years. The latter ones were after he was entreached from years in office, and he always had mega millions at his disposal too. The '92 Faircloth win is the only one that doesn't exactly fit, and even then the GOP Presidential candidate took the state that year.
Rasmussen had Obama/McCain at 47% each in April.
If Obama wins or at least keeps it close, then I think HAGAN can pull out the win, provided the DSCC funds her race.
BTW,this race took a 14 point swing since the last time Rasmussen polled it a month or two ago.
That's why I don't panic when MN or ME show a double digit lead for the incumbents GOPers.

to an extent...her seat wouldn't be difficult to defend, but it would cost money. The Democrats don't want to have to defend any State Senate seats when they're two seats from a majority.

You don't know Staten Island

When the news first broke and I talked about it with my family in Queens, the first thing I my grandmother said; "He's in Staten Island, so they'll reelect him" Staten Island has a reputation here for being the "sleazy borough." It's relatively erroneous, but I've met many a person from Staten Island, who are, in fact, sleazy people. I have friends from college from Staten Island who couldn't wait to leave. Here in Queens, the very thought of living in Staten Island causes people's faces to cringe. My dad refuses to drive through it to go to New Jersey and will go out of his way through Manhattan because he "feels dirty" driving through it.
I'm Italian-American from New York, I know how my community is. Because this guy's name is Vito Fossella, because he's a Republican and because he's from Staten Island, there is nothing short of raping little boys that can turn this district against him. His reelection got harder, but there's a really good chance that, despite this, they'll send him back to Washington this year.
How do you think a sleazeball like Rudy Giuliani won twice here?

I talked to a friend that lives in Portland recently, and she is one of those voters that always votes, but only pays real attention when she has to. She thought that Novick had already won the primary and was going on to face the republican in November. Merkley may have had bigger adds, but Novicks unique adds made quite an impression on Oregonians I believe. And Oregonians are quirky... Maybe not as much as Minnesotans... lol you never know who they are going to vote for. But never expect the Oregonian tree huggers to do something that surprises the hell out of you. lol Merkley may win, but I wouldn't dismiss Novicks uniqueness to Oregonians. That beer commercial was probably one of the best I've ever seen in my entire life. HYSTERICAL! lol
