May Pre-Primary FEC Filing Round-up

On June 3rd, congressional primaries will be decided New Jersey, New Mexico, Montana, Iowa, California, South Dakota, and Alabama.  As such, candidates from these states had to file pre-primary financial reports covering the period from 4/1 to 5/14.  We’ve rounded up a few filings of interest below (all numbers subject to rounding; candidate loans or large self-donations excluded where possible):

A few quick notes:

  • AL-02: Democrat Bobby Bright is finally getting his act together, raising a respectable haul in a very well-financed field.
  • CA-11: What is Dean Andal doing?  Including the $11,000 that he raised in the last six weeks, he’s barely raised $100K all year.  And this guy is supposed to be the GOP’s great hope this cycle?  Now, Andal does have over $500K on-hand, so McNerney is far from safe, but this has got to be disappointing for Tom Cole & co.
  • CA-46: Dana Rohrabacher sure is lazy.
  • NJ-03: Here’s one quarrelsome primary that the GOP sure didn’t need.  While Jack Kelly and Chris Myers squabble over scraps, Democrat John Adler has taken a monster fundraising lead, with $1.1 million on hand to a combined $200K for the GOP jokers.  With numbers as stark as these, it’s no small wonder that the Hotline pondered aloud yesterday if it’s time for the GOP to “write this one off”.  Ouch.
  • NJ-07: Things aren’t quite as bleak for the GOP here, but that’s not saying much.  Stender is heading into the general election with a huge lead over whomever the GOP nominates.

  1. Boy, Brown’s fundraising has really dried up since Doolittle annouced his retirement. Nice to see one of those seats where the incumbent retiring actually helps us GOPers keep it. Go McClintock!

Also pumped about White’s fundraising pace in NM-1.

  2.    He outraised incumbent Chris Smith.  Chris Smith doesn’t have an overwhelming amount of cash on hand – $447K.  There might be something there.  The Northeast is running (not walking) into the arms of Democrats.

  3. I love that… Rohrabacher sure is lazy. I just got an application in my email today to possible work on the campaign for Debbie Cook in CA-46. From what I’ve read, she’s fairly progressive and she’s must be doing well to be elected mayor of Huntington Beach… Its a pretty conservative city. We’ll see. I doubt I’d be able to get on the campaign before the primary, so we’ll see. I already got two friends that live in that district to vote for her! haha I’m a good campaign worker!

  4. James mentions what Andal has raised to date.  Note as well that Andal declared in June 2007 and promptly had a big money fundraiser.  According to news reports, over 300 people attended and over $250,000 was raised.  So here we are 11 months later, and that one big evening still accounts for 39% of his fundraising.  He clearly picked the low-hanging fruit very early and has not done much else yet.

Of note too, in this morning’s rankings, CA-11 is one of four Democratic seats that Chris Cillizza ranks in this top 20 (of likely to change hands.  He ranks it #18.   http://blog.washingtonpost.com

  5. taking place on that date(dem and rep)? if anyone here knows, i would appreciate it(the new jersey primaries in particular i think we will find interesting);thanks(i guess i should ask if the candidates listed here are the only ones with primary opponents)

  6. John Adler is running one hell of a campaign in NJ’s 3rd. With fundraising numbers like these, its hard to put an agrument why the NRCC and national R’s wouldn’t abandon patronage loving Jack Kelly or handpicked BurlCo Machine candidate Chris Myers.

As John Adler continues to make his way around the district, more voters are hearing and approving of his message, and the numbers here show that.

  7. get those numbers for NM-02. The FEC hasn’t updated for McCamley.

NM-02 is another race that is very important at this point. McCamley is running against Teague who is a hugely wealthy oilman who would probably be the worst Democrat we have in Congress.

    Go McCamley!
