Today, I’m announcing I will be a candidate for Governor of Florida in the November 2010 election, and put my business experience and know-how to work restoring our economy.
This is great news for Florida Dems – this seat instantly rockets to the top of our big-state pickup lists. As such, the Swing State Project is moving this from a Safe R “Race to Watch” to Tossup.
My guess is that by next year this one will be in the Leans Dem category. Sink has an absolutely perfect profile for running a large state like Florida in these tough financial times.
of crist’s good policies. sink to the top!
Florida has never has a female Governor.

If she wins (she’ll probably face a tough race from AG Bill McCollum), it will not only be great news for Floridians, it will be great news for non-Floridian redistricting geeks who sweat at the idea of another GOP gerrymander in 2011.
and i think she’d be a good governor and with her real world and political experience could run on cleaning up the housing mess and stabilizing the state financial market. Then she could also force Republicans to compromise on their Map, no more gerrymanders, she might even be able to get them to get rid of Connie Brown’s horrendous gerrymander of a district, and maybe give Allen Boyd a Tallahasse-Gainesville district that would actually maybe lean Democratic.
I’m feeling good about picking up Putnam’s district too really, seems like the kind of district and situation where Democrats have been winning a lot of seats lately. I think we’ll see a relatively fair and non-partisan map with her in office, and she may actual provide the strong state leadership to shape up Democrats and allow them to improve from the terrible 2:1 hole they are in now in the state legislature. Beyond that she’ll prevent Republicans from gerrymandering that state legislative seats which are apparently even more grossly gerrymandered than the federal ones, so Democrats should be in a good position to make gains under her governorship.
to finally once again put Democrats in control of Florida. I also think having a Democratic Governor would help with an eventual takeover of the state legislature, particularly with fundraising and candidate recruitment.
