Weekly Open Thread: What Races Are You Interested In?

Come senators, congressmen

Please heed the call

Don’t stand in the doorway

Don’t block up the hall

UPDATE: We’ve added a neat little feature to the site. If you post an HTML table, you can make the columns sortable by putting the phrase class="sortable" in the opening table tag. See our Open Seat Watch for some examples.

  1. “Children waiting for the day they feel good,

    Happy Birthday, Happy birthday.

Made to feel the way that every child should,

sit and listen, sit and listen.

Went to school and I was very nervous,

no one knew me, no one knew me.

Hello Teacher tell me what’s my lesson,

    no expression, no expression.”

First person who manages to tell me who did that song might get free babka.

  2. Currently, we have two vacancies (141 and 58) with a third (129) coming.  One (58) is a Democratic-held district that will elect a Democrat.  Another (129) is a Republican-held district that will probably election a Republican.  And the third is a Democratic-held swing district (141).

  3. Will be he who has stalled

    The battle outside ragin’

    We’ll soon shake your windows

    And rattle your walls

For the times they are a-changin’

Ah, early Dylan is the best. At least in his first decade of singing, he was audible. Somewhere in the ’80s, he became inaudible.

I have a couple of his albums. My favorites are: Highway 61 Revisited, The Times They Are A-Changin’, and Slow Train Coming.

Normally, I detest “Christian rock”, but I really dig “Gotta Serve Somebody”.

  4. Earlier this week, I read Washington, D.C. by Gore Vidal in about eight consecutive hours.  This weekend I’ll be rereading it.  It is amazing; if you haven’t read it, GO READ IT.

  5. Right now, what I’m most interested in is the prospective defeat of any and all New York State senators who are criminal, corrupt, or otherwise responsible for making my state the laughingstock of the Free World.

  6. According to results from CQ Politics 2006 was a much better year for us in this district than 2008, yet in 2008 Democratic challenger Michael Montagano raised $854,159.00 while finishing 6 points lower than Mark Souder's (R-03) opponent. Why did this happen? I see that the Libertarian candidate took 5.3 percent of the vote, is this where the 2006 votes against Souder went? Are off year elections better for this area? I've heard Souder is a pretty nasty Republican always looking to throw marijuana users in jail for life and such (not really a huge issue for me) and seems as though he's a iittle bit too radical for a bunch of mild midwesterners.

  7. Well, I guess the election itself is technically over, so I’m no longer following that.

But I am trying to follow what’s going on in there.

Questions: Which place do we have less of a clue of what’s going on, the NY State Senate or Iran?

  8. I think we can all agree that Joseph Cao is basically doomed for relection in his heavily Democratic New Orleans district. But has anyone actually seen or heard of any polls that have been done since he was elected last year?
