The Real Democrat (FL-Sen)

If you haven’t seen it yet, the campaign released a new web video this morning, asking the question, “How do you find the real Democrat in the Florida U.S. Senate race”?  Take a look and tell me what you think.  Video and transcript after the jump…

Narrator: How do you find the real Democrat in the Florida U.S. Senate race?

Narrator: Uh, not Marco Rubio, no.

Narrator: Jeff Greene says he’s a Democrat, but he was a Republican, and was not a Democrat until 2008.

Chorus: He’s not a real Democrat.

Narrator: He’s just confused.

Narrator: Jeff thinks he can use the bazillion dollars he made when middle class families lost their homes to buy the Florida Senate seat. [Chorus: Boos]

Chorus: That’s Just Charlie Crist

Narrator: Even Charlie Crist said: “I’m a Jeb Bush Republican,” “It’s hard to be more conservative than I am on the issues.”

Chorus: Charlie Crist is no Democrat

Narrator: So, which candidate in the race is pro-choice, has always voted against offshore drilling, and stood up for the middle class?

Chorus: That’s Kendrick Meek

Chorus: Democrat [Photo of President Bill Clinton]

Chorus: Democrat [Photo of President Barack Obama]

Chorus: Democrat [Photo of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz]

Chorus: Democrat [Photo of Sen. Al Franken]

Chorus: Democrat [Photo of Rep. Nydia Velazquez]

Chorus: Democrat [Photo of Rep. Ted Deutch]

Chorus: Democrat [Photo of Rep. Alcee Hastings]

Narrator: That’s why these Dems are supporting Kendrick Meek.

Narrator: Don’t miss the elephant in the room. There’s only one real Democrat in the race — Kendrick Meek for U.S. Senate.

Paid for by Kendrick Meek for Florida.

  1. i think we should block kendrickmeek, the account, from posting diaries.  you’re probably hurting your vote chances among SSP readers, Congressman

  2. It’s actually an interesting change up and the Meek campaign is one of the few that has reached out so thoroughly.

A couple of spots, one, I wouldn’t brag about any endorsement from Alcee Hastings, the guy is corrupt as can be and I have no idea what South Floridians have elected him. Two, bazillion dollars seems a bit childish, and not very intelligent.

  3. I think the web video is great and I hope you win!

Why do you think you are having some problems in the Democratic primary though? Are you currently running ads?

  4. just spent about an hour or so posting and then replying to comments on his post shows me two things. Either this is a new way of campaiging (in this case, you’re preaching to mostly the converted Democratic base), or he’s given up to Greene and basically killing time here. I’m not endorsing either of those conclusions, just citing some observations.

  5. I think it’s great what an officeholder takes the time to post here and respond to our questions! I saw you on MSNBC (yesterday I think, might have been the day before) about off shore drilling and thought you were really impressive.

I’m pulling for you, but I’m very concerned about Greene in the primary. If you’re not running any ads in the primary, then another mysterious and unelectable Greene might win a Democratic primary. How do you combat, then, his millions? Name rec will probably be key.

  6. That thinks the “chorus” (or three staffers crowding around a microphone) sounds flat and monotone, like they’re reading a book report? The narrator is fine for what its supposed to be, but the supporting voices was just grating and jarring.

  7. My criticisms:

Greene “He’s just confused, he only became a democrat in 2008” What do you mean? Could you site Republican primary history? Donations given, etc, something. Say, if there is donation history from Green to Bush, that’s an eye catcher.

Crist: Well executed, keep it as is.

Meek: “That’s Kendrick Meek” PLEASE, use someone that does not sound like a  teacher from Charlie Brown here, have it be younger kids cheering you name or something, upbeat, optimistic, etc that contrasts you with the rest. I agree with the previous comment, get rid of Hastings, start with the FL. House delegation and BUILD to Obama then Bill Clinton of whom you are in the photo with.

That’s what I got, good luck to you congressman!

  8. I live in Tallahassee and I do support your campaign and I have your bumperstickers, and also signed your petition.

    But I have a question..

Say it’s the day before elections day. All the slew of general election polls for FL-Sen have it around 40% Crist 40% Rubio 15% Meek.

Would you ever considering throwing support behind Crist in a last ditch effort to prevent Rubio from becoming Senator (kind of like the Scozzafava thing in NY-23)

I know it would not be the optimal choice, but I feel Crist is better than Rubio (and youre better than Crist)and we cannot afford to hand this seat to Rubio and the Tea Party.
