I just wanted to wish each and every one of you a happy Thanksgiving. I have much to be thankful for, and I hope all of you do as well.
The Swing State Project will be taking something of a break this holiday weekend, so feel free to use this as an open thread. And of course, there’s always the diaries as well. Have a great Turkey Day!
Happy Turkey Day to all!
My nominee for the best campaign song of 2006 is for incoming Virgin Islands Democratic duo, Gov.-elect John deJongh and Lt. Gov.-elect Gregory Francis. I don’t mean that as a slight on the Squirrel Nut Zippers, who are totally great; but the “Had Enough?” version of “Put a Lid On It” isn’t specific to a single campaign or area of the country. Incidentally, DeJongh is promising universal health insurance to the Virgin Islands.
I was just thinking, perhaps it would be a good idea for a 2008 presidential candidate to hold a fundraiser in one or more of our overseas territories. Since they don’t get any electoral votes (unlike DC), it would be the only way for islanders to affect the outcome of the election. When you consider the impact that global warming could have on Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas, they have a lot at stake.
