FL-10: How Can You Trust Bill Young?

So crumb bum Bill Young wants us all to “assume that he’s running again”.  While that might be convenient for “C.W.”, we might want to take a look at his fourth quarter fundraising receipts and see if he’s actually, you know, preparing to run a campaign:

Total Contributions: $3750.00

That’s right.  In the last three months of 2007, Bill Young couldn’t even raise four thousand dollars.  That’s barely a hair better than the five Benjamins that Sen. John Warner raised in the first quarter of 2007.

As I’ve said before, something smells fishy regarding Bill Young’s shambling lurch toward his 20th term.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Young plans to pull out his parachute at or after the filing deadline.

  1. Young never seems to rais emuch or spend much.  Then again, he never gets much of a challenge.  The 66% he got in this 50-50 district is his low for the last decade.

Give him a push and he’ll go.  Otherwise, he may stay until he dies.  Bill Young was my congressman when I lived there in the late 70s and early 80s and he already was a veteran guy.  Considering that a lot of residents have only been in the district for a few years being the congressman for almost 40 years is less of an advantage than one might think.

Young is too old and too moderate to become a chairman, even if the Republicans resume power.  Tampa has the bases anyway, not St. Pete-Clearwater.  No edge here.

Can we take him out.  Yes.  The biggest chance (other than a push out) of a retirement would be a Lipinski thing where he gets to name his outspoken early 50ish wife.  She’s way more conservative than Bill Young.
