SurveyUSA has the first public poll of the Democratic primary for race against Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, and so far, it’s looking like a rout for Bruce Lunsford:
Bruce Lunsford (D): 42%
David Williams (D): 11%
Greg Fischer (D): 6%
James Rice (D): 5%
David Wylie (D): 5%
Mike Cassaro (D): 4%
Ken Stepp (D): 3%
Other: 17%
Undecided: 8%
(MoE: ±4.2%)
Lunsford’s only serious opponent in the primary, Greg Fischer, a seller of stadium bleachers, has some serious ground to make up. It’s likely that Lunsford, from his acrimonious runs for the Governor’s mansion, has a ceiling of support in the Democratic primary, but the crowded field opposing him is splitting the remainder of the vote so far.
Will Fischer be able to close the gap and consolidate the non-Lunsford vote in time for the Kentucky’s May 20th primary?
Lunsford skipped one of the biggest party events to go golfing in the Dubai. He is a joke of a canidate and hopefully Greg Fischer can catch up. Fisher is a much better canidate and would stand a better shot at beating Mitch.
uuuuuugggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!
they both willing to self-fund?
I don’t see Greg Fischer overturning a 36 point lead in less than two months without self-funding a decent ammount.
Lunsford, it’ll be bound to pay off sometime.
I wonder what his motivation is? Is he really going to give it his all against McConnell?
David Williams is apparently a frequent candidate. If Fischer can’t beat him, he’s got problems.
That said, I doubt many people know who all these candidates are. And half of Lunsford’s support admits that it is soft. So Fischer needs to be organising heavily and he needs to be shelling out to get people informed about who he is and what he believes in.
At least I won’t be going over my budget by disastrous multiples due to my donations to this race. No, I’ll do that in other races instead.
I continue to say I’m not being a pessimist, but only a realist. As I said on the Senate Guru site, there is no way I could support Lunsford given his donations to McConnell during his last election, and supporting the GOP nominee for Governor in 2003. If Fischer isn’t able to do anything in this race (and even if he does), this race seems about as safe as anything could.
Democratic party didn’t get a top challenger (two of them), and now have this. This ranks right up there with North Carolina and potentially Oregon in the disappointing recruitment department.
KELL
I question whether Lunsford is actually running to win the seat or to make sure McConnell wins re-election comfortably. Lunsford does not even deserve a DINO label.
Watch this to see his previous loyalty to the democratic party.
