DFL delegates are convening in Rochester to decide the party’s endorsement in the Senate race against Norm Coleman. Our friends over at Minnesota Campaign Report and MN Publius are blogging the event in real time. Check it out.
Here’s one interesting tidbit: Rep. Keith Ellison is apparently wearing a Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer button on the floor and attempting to persuade delegates to support his candidacy.
UPDATE: According to MN Publius, Franken was endorsed on the first ballot with 62% of the vote. To be honest, that’s a stronger showing that I had expected.
Hopefully this is on to fighting Norm Coleman now.
in january, you can call him SENATOR
I hate to rain on the parade but I don’t think Al is a very good candidate and he may lose a very winnable seat. This election is now going to be about Playboy, SNL skits and carpetbagging instead of being about Bush/Coleman. The only shot Franken has is if the nationwide blue tide carries him to victory.
Is this the actual day when Franken becomes the nominee, or is there still a primary in September?
I understand that it may be interesting to discuss whether Franken was our best candidate or not. But, at this point, isn’t the question merely academic? If Franken is our nominee, then let’s get behind him. Even if he’s not the strongest candidate, he clearly has a realistic chance to win. Besides, imagine all of the wingnut heads exploding if he wins–very satisfying.
