FL-Sen: Martinez in Bad Shape For 2010

Public Policy Polling (6/26-29, likely voters):

Alex Sink (D): 37

Mel Martinez (R-inc): 31

Robert Wexler (D): 33

Mel Martinez (R-inc): 33

(MoE: ±3.6%)

Floridians really seem to dislike Mel Martinez. His approval rating is a dismal 23%, with 43% disapproving of his antics in Congress. This one is shaping up to be a major pick-up opportunity on the horizon, especially if we can get a top-tier recruit like Florida CFO Alex Sink to enter the race. It’s never too early to start thinking ahead to 2010.

Bonus finding: Obama leads McCain by 46-44 in the state.

  1. is too liberal for Florida as a whole.

He’s getting the 33% of hard core dems who would never vote for Martinez.  But he’d be hard pressed to grab enough to make up a majority.

I don’t know much about Sink, but she was elected state wide, only the second Dem to be elected state wide in a while.  That’s a huge plus.

  2. and alex sink looks good.  but klein can use house funds to run for senate and he could have 2 to $4M in ’09 alone probably putting him right there with martinez in money.

the more i think of it the more obvious it is.  i trust martinez is raising furiously right now – unless he’s giving up.  does anyone know his money situation?
