In the white room, with black curtains, near the station,
Black roof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings,
Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes.
Dawn light smiles on you leaving, my contentment.
Weekend Discussion Items (James L.):
- PA-06: From “The West Wing” to Congress? Apparently, Melissa Fitzgerald, who played C.J.’s assistant Carol in the TV series, is considering a challenge to Republican Jim Gerlach. (H/T: Adam B)
- OK-Sen: During a recent campaign event with Dick Cheney, Sen. Jim Inhofe unleashed the denial of all denials (emphasis added):
Inhofe, speaking to the press before Cheney’s arrival, lambasted Democrats for Thursday’s Senate vote to begin withdrawal from Iraq by Oct. 1 and the press for “mischaracterizing” the reasons for U.S. involvement.
“The whole idea of weapons of mass destruction was never the issue, yet they keep trying to bring this up,” Inhofe said.
When asked why Gen. Colin Powell, then U.S. secretary of state, told the United Nations in 2003 that such weapons posed an imminent danger, Inhofe replied: “I can’t answer that. In fact, I’ve never been one of the real strong fans of General Powell.”
Pressed for an explanation, Inhofe said weapons of mass destruction were “incidental” to the decision to invade Iraq.
“The media made that the issue because they knew Saddam Hussein had used weapons of mass destruction. So we knew that they were there. But that was incidental to the fact we were going after terrorist camps.”
If this is what Republicans and braying idiot pundits call “serious people” on the issue of national security and foreign policy, the lunatics have indeed taken over the asylum. (H/T: Senate 2008 Guru)
- AZ-01: Embattled Republican Rick Renzi is hanging tight, at least for the time being. How long do you give him?
Might be a while he’s around, if he’s staring at tens of thousands of attorney bills in coming months. After all, if he doesn’t pretend to be running, how’s he going to others to fund his legal costs (a la Tom DeLay)? My guess is he is not going to want to pay for these himself – even though he’s got the money.
Also, if for some reason the $350K loan he made to himself has to be paid off by other contributors to comply with campaign finance rules, then I would expect he’ll be sticking it out till he gets made whole for that.
If this drags out, it could be fun to watch.
Us Okies will be working our asses off for whoever decides to take him on. At a function down in Dallas the other day, Schumer approached recently elected State Senator Andrew Rice. Rice is one of Oklahoma’s strongest progressive leaders. I’d rather see Governor Henry or Attorney General Edmonson run but it would be intersting to see how a fiery Oklahoma styled progressive would do against Inhofe.
Gibbons approval currently stands at 30% and he’s only a few months into his first term. this makes him just another republican governor, dogged by poor popularity and worse performance. Better still, is that should his unpopularity continue, or he get recalled, then this might just be the foothold we need to retake Nevada. We can get their electoral votes in `08, and hopefully NV-2 and NV-3. Better still, if we get the governors seat come 2010, we’ll be able to draw the districts when Nevada’s new seats come in 2012 (their population is growing so fast, their bound to get at least one). Either way this republican corruption right in their backyard might be enough to turn the state against the R’s.
Seriously! AL-03 is our best chance for taking anything in Alabama in 2008. Let’s go for it. I’d run but I’m not old enough yet.
Don’t get me wrong I’m all for being competitive in every district, but how can we win in a district that reelected Rep.Rogers-R with 60% against Pierce with 38% and other with 2%. Wouldn’t that be a huge uphill battle.
I wish that were the case but the DCCC will probaly be spending most of it’s money on defending it’s incumbents and attacking more wineble seats. Plus it will be a Presidential election so most of the money will go to the Presidential Race and not Senatoral and House races.
State Sen. Walter Boasso just switched from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party. The Republicans locked him out of the party endorsement process, which normally does not occur until September, so he has switched parties. He was a Demcorat in the 1980s before switching to the Republican Party in the 1990s. This race gets more strange every day.

OK, so now Elton Gallegy is running for re-election. It’s R+5, but it’d be awfully nice of us to just beat him and keep him from having to make this decision over again twice a week.
So my interest in the race to replace Luis Gutierrez (IL-04) has increased.
Munoz is mostly running on his record of providing constituent service in his Chicago ward. Not the kind of stuff that inspires me.
However, he is on the side of the reformers in Chicago politics and got elected as a Dean delegate in 2004 after Dean had dropped out.
Any word of whether or not 2004 Reform candidate, now Democrat, Eric Eidsness is running against the bigot Marilyn Musgrave.
The Colorado 4 is one of my favorite places in the world. It’s a shame it’s representative in Washington is the hateful Musgrave. This is a woman who complains the government is too involved in family affairs, but then wants to narrow the definition of what a family is and tells Michael Schaivo she, not him, knows best for his wife.
Another hypocrites who doesn’t deserve to represent such a wonderful piece of America.
WV-02 is getting even more interesting. New diary up on it.
TMP Cafe is reporting that Rep. Tom Davis is claiming that Senator John Warner has told him to begin preparations for an open Senate race.
If accurate, this is the next step in the Blue evolution of Virginia.
