The end of the fundraising quarter is this Saturday, June 30th. I know I don’t need to remind Swing State Project readers about how important these deadlines are. But I do want to raise an issue that we didn’t face last cycle – the presidential campaign.
Each passing quarter, more and more media oxygen will get devoted to the presidentials. This quarter may be the last before the political press gets totally devoured by the race for the White House. So I strongly encourage donating to the Democrat (or Democrats) of your choice this week.
If you’re looking for some worthy candidates, you can check out Charlie Brown and Donna Edwards on the Blue Majority fundraising page (formerly the “netroots” page). But there are tons of great people out there. Find someone you like and give a little.
And in comments, if you’re making a donation or thinking about doing so, please tell us who your target might be.
I’ve given to our brand-new House incumbents, Paul Hodes and Carol Shea-Porter, and to both Steve Marchand, who’s in the primary to face John Sununu, and to the general fund for the nominee in that race.
I haven’t expanded outside that yet, but I expect when I do I’ll give to Tom Allen in Maine…after that I’ll have to do some thinking.
This guy doing the ads to the left of my text bubble here, Jim Himes, never heard of him before tonight. I checked out his website and he seems very qualified, smart, and willing to reach out to grassroots/netroots.
Someone fill me in on this guy becuase as of right now his appeal is reminding me a lot of when I first heard of Patrick Murphy (my favorite house freshman, even better than the house freshman I got to vote for) with the whole local activism spending a good portion of his life helping those that were less fortunate.
I am eager to learn more . . .
For 2Q, I have been donating to newly elected progressive Dems who will face tough races in toss-up or repulican leaning districts, as well as some challengers who nearly won in 2006 in republican districts.
These include incumbent freshmen Jerry McNerney CA-11), Harry Mitchell (AZ-05), John Yarmuth (KY-03), Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), and Nancy Boyda KS-02) and challengers Charlie Brown (CA-04), and Larry Kissell (NC-11). I have also donated to Tom Allen (Me-Sen).
I agree with the observation that as the Presidential race occupies more and more of the space devoted to poliical news in media of every kind, it crowds out attention to campaigns and candidacies of greater interest (to me, anyway).
I’m targeting a couple of Virginia state assembly races that are up in Nov. 2007, before we even get to the next cycle.
My slate so far for 2008 starts up with Jerry McNerney and Larry Kissell. A few additional faces and races are posted on my ActBlue page at:
