…as a Democrat? From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
Friedman said he is considering running again for governor in 2010, as a Democrat.“God probably couldn’t have won as an independent,” Friedman said.
“My focus would be on education and getting rid of the death penalty. I don’t think that’s a radical view. What part of ‘Thou shalt not kill’ don’t people understand?”
Now, I’m not from Texas, but as I recall, Kinky’s lackluster 12.6% of the vote that November was attributable to his schtick wearing thin over the course of the campaign.
The response to this idea over at the Burnt Orange Report is, not surprisingly, overwhelming negative.
perot was from texas for god’s sake.
Well, we’ve had some success with fed-up GOP office-seekers switching to the Democratic ticket, in Kansas. But I have no interest in Friedman, whose views on the issues seems a complete scramble of left, right, center, and weird.
The rumor that Schwarz might be interested in running on our ticket for his old seat in MI-07 is more intriguing. If the party were to judge that he was the best opportunity to sideline the wingnut who retired him, presumably the Democratic leadership could offer to restore his House seniority, if he wins.
Let’s remember that the reason the Club for Growth backed the primary opponent who beat Schwarz was because the then-incumbent voted with the Democrats on too many issues.
