Man that was some good turkey.

A number of good ones this week, including:
- DGM walks us through every conceivable general election matchup in NM-Sen – Pearce-Chavez, Wilson-Udall, and so on.
- Texas Dem takes a wry but thoughtful look at the criteria which distinguish serious candidates from the jokers.
- Progressive America recaps the recent push to draft Dem Joe Garcia into the race in FL-25 against Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart.
- Finally, in a separate diary, PA also ranks the top ten Florida House contests and offers color commentary on each.
New York’s 25th, 26th and 29th congressional districts have seats I’m very interested in. The Jim Walsh-Dan Maffei race in the 25th is interesting. Maffei is a strong contender who has raised plenty of money.
The Eric Massa-Randy Kuhl race in the 29th is going to be a great one. Massa has the inside track and has also raised plenty of money.
Then there’s the 26th. Jon Powers has a contender for the primary (Alice Kryzan) but he looks like the one to take on Tom Reynolds.
All three are great races. It looks like upstate NY could turn blue in 2008.
YES! I gotta love Arkansas, and gotta love Darren McFadden. Three touchdowns rushing, one passing, BAM! I was so sick and tired of LSU. I was afraid, that after getting out of several tight spots, they would still get to go to the national champsionship. Well, the dream is dead. I pay to God that McFadden and Jones come back to play their senior years, if they do, Arkansas might just have a shot at a the national championship if they have a perfect, 2006ish season, (without the pathetic, disapointing post season, and the gutwrenching five point loss to LSU in the last game of the regular season, a loss that took away what little shot Arkansas had at going to a national championship). Paybacks a bitch as they say.
Sorry to clog with football talk, but I saw that the thread wasn’t exactly booming, so I thought I’d try something tro get a spark going.
Has there been any polling in these two dictricts? Other info?
Thanks!
In 2010, damn near all of Georgia government will be up for re-election. The Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Insurance and Fire Commissioner, School Superintendent, Labor Commissioner, Agriculture Commissioner, all State House seats, all State Senate seats, all U.S. House seats, a U.S. Senate seat, and a couple of Public Service Commission seats will be up.
Republican Governor Sonny Perdue is term-limited in 2010. This one open seat has the potential to create a chain-reaction that could result in numerous open seats and could be a window of opportunity for us.
Senator Johnny Isakson, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, and House Speaker Glenn Richardson, among others, are all rumored to be considering the job on the Republican side. For us, rumored candidates include Attorney General Thurbert Baker and House Minority Leader Dubose Porter.
If Isakson runs, you might see several Congressional Republicans like Phil Gingrey, John Linder, and Lynn Westmoreland try for a promotion, especially if Democrats retain/increase their House majority in 2008 and like to do the same in 2010. You would expect to see lots of interest in Cagle’s job, including possibly by Secretary of State Karen Handel.
If this starts to happen, espect several House and Senate members to step up to run for Congress and state offices below the governor.
It could certainly get interesting.
Congresswoman Julia Carson revealed this weekend that she has terminal lung cancer. In her brief statement (which can be read at indystar.com) she did not mention resignation or anything else political, but said she had had cancer before, and it was back “with a terminal vengeance.” The tone of her statement strongly indicates she doesn’t have much time left. I’ll save my political speculation and commentary about this for another day.
She should announce her retirement. The one concern should she pass away within the next few months, is that there would be a special election.
