Public Opinion Strategies for Jim Ryun (4/27-28, likely voters):
Jim Ryun (R): 65
Lynn Jenkins (R): 21
(MoE: ±5.7%)
Jenkins is holding her fire, stockpiling resources for a big push here in the summer, but this is the second poll in a row to show a big edge for Ryun. You’ve gotta wonder: just how negative is Jenkins willing to go in order to tighten this race up?
Primary: 8/5
Who should we as Democrats be supporting? I kind of lean Ryun mainly because of the huge split in Kansas politics creating really three political parties. A Boyda vs. Ryun allows us to pick-up lots of moderate Republican votes, Jenkins vs. Boyda doesn’t. But a Jenkins vs. Boyda may make the christian fundis stay home or skip that part of the ballot.
I worry about Boyda….
Boyda won with a coalition of Dems, Independents and moderate Republicans.
Lynn Jenkins who is a moderate Republican would clearly cut into that base. The question is, will the conservative Republicans come to together in support of Jenkins?
Jim Ryun on the other has name recognition for district he’s represented for many years. He beat Boyda handily in ’04 only to lose to her in ’06. The question is, weather the Moderate Republicans will stay with him or join Boyda due to his ultraconservative standards.
The fact that it is going to be a presidential year will make it even more of an uphill battle to hold this seat. Boyda will not have the coattails of governor Sebelius this time.
this seat will be lean D this fall. The morem oderate Jenkins is by far the better challenger for them.
the stronger of the two potential republican challengers- but it’s looking less and less likely she’s going to be able to make it out of the primary- for lots of reasons. She’s pro-choice, which isn’t an issue in the general, but certainly is a significant problem in the primary, and she recently advocated increasing taxes in an effort to protect Social Security. Again, not a bad position necessarily, but far outside of the views of her primary voters.
With Ryun the nominee, hopefully Nancy Boyda will find herself re-elected.

Has anyone seen any polling on Ryun v Boyda in the general election so far? I realize its pretty far out, but you neverknow.
