NY-13: NYC Dems, Van Hollen Back McMahon

Twelve members of New York City’s Democratic House delegation, led by Charlie Rangel, are uniting to support Mike McMahon for the open seat left behind by retiring Rep. Vito Fossella. From a joint statement released by Rangel:

“Following the lead of local Staten Island and Brooklyn Democrats, the New York City Congressional delegation is proud to stand behind Staten Island Councilman Mike McMahon in his campaign for Congress.”

“This year, we have an historic opportunity to turn the last Republican Congressional district in New York City Democratic. We are committed to seeing that Mike McMahon is successful.”

Additionally, the Hill reports that DCCC Chair Chris Van Hollen will campaign with McMahon this weekend.

McMahon will square off with Brooklyn attorney Steve Harrison in the state’s September 9th primary.

  1. harrison would, if elected, be the most progressive member of our NYC delegation… so no surprise that they don’t want someone in there keeping them honest.

anyway, sending him my best wishes in this primary… but chances are it will be mcmahon, and i CERTAINLY HOPE these reps will be JUST AS PUBLIC & ACTIVE raising money & stumping for his election.

  2. The Rasmussen Poll results regarding the NC Senate and Governor elections are not current.  They are from a May poll.  Only the results regarding the Presidential race in NC are recent.  Elizabeth Dole is doing much better in the polls than she performed in the May Rasmussen poll.  Public Policy Polling, a Democratic polling firm, has her up by 8 percentage points in the most recent poll on the race.  Kay Hagan, her challenger, released an internal poll that shows Dole up by 4 percentage points.  Dole’s campaign has aired a TV ad about illegal immigration recently.  This ad probably will produce further poll numbers favorable to her.  Dole’s significant edge in fundraising over Hagan makes this a race not likely to switch parties compared to many other Senate races.

  3. i’ll post my question here lol. National Journal’s House Race Hotline is reporting that our nominee for AL-01 is dropping out, can’t get a subscription account over there so i couldn’t read the whole story. Anyone have an account or familiar with the race? the primary’s been last tuesday so can we get another candidate’s name on the ballot, like when Dick Versace dropped out in IL-18??
