This is a nice boost for Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg:
Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg has picked up a key endorsement in his bid to unseat Republican Michele Bachmann in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District. The Independence Party of Minnesota is backing Tinklenberg instead of fielding their own candidate.
Why does this matter? In 2006, Independence Party candidate John Binkowski won 8% of the vote in MN-06 to Bachmann’s 50% and Democrat Patty Wetterling’s 42%. That’s not to say that this is now a 50-50 race, but Tinklenberg won’t have to worry about splitting the anti-incumbent vote this time around, so this is a pretty sweet score for him.
SSP currently rates this race as Likely Republican.
Can get all of Patty’s voters and Binkowsk’s voters then he loses the election by 527 votes.
Obama will likely register more new voters then that.
Patty also had run before and raised over 3 million dollars which is something that El will not get close to but this is a very, very big boost for his campaign.
when you have an incumbent that is vulnerable(such as in this case);you want the “anti-” vote unified; great news
any word out of jesse “the body” lately?
but when I first read what his name was, I had to laugh out loud. I know, I’m so bad. 🙂
Can’t wait for certain bloggers to label Tinklenberg as an “anti-choice reactionary” and refuse to support him, even when it’s against Michelle Freakin’ Bachmann.
As a Minnesotan, I can tell you the IP endorsement will make a difference. 8% is a rather large percentage so if even he can manage to snag 5% of that and maintain Wetterling’s percentage, thats a 47-53 race. Obama will hopefully bring him across the finishin line.
He should run very strongly in Anoka (he was also Blaine mayor which is the largest city in that county).
I don’t think Jesse will run. He loves living in Mexico half the year and doesn’t want to give up that lifestyle.
If El had been the Democratic nominee in 2006 he would be the current representative. It’s going to be harder now beacuse he got a later start and has to run against a incumbent but he can still win.
The DCCC needs to add him to Red to Blue quick though so he can raise enough money to win.
