Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. Rasmussen (8/13, likely voters incl. leaners, 7/21 in parens):
Mark Udall (D): 50 (49)
Bob Schaffer (R): 42 (46)
(MoE: ±4.5%)
This race has more or less fallen into a holding pattern of a high single digits lead for Mark Udall for the past several months, as illustrated nicely by Pollster.com’s chart.
Udall is also up with a new ad that includes support for additional domestic drilling as one of many measures to combat the current energy crisis. I’d expect to see many more ads like this from downballot Democrats this fall as they attempt to neutralize the one issue where the GOP is rediscovering its swagger. Sure, it’s a total canard, but I don’t think Democrats want to end up on the wrong side of this debate in the court of public opinion. That’s the downside of populism for you.
SSP currently rates this race as Lean Democratic.
UPDATE: A new CBS4/Rocky Mountain News poll (8/11-13, likely voters) also shows Udall up — this time by 44 to 38.
Udall at 50 now, I think this is the first time he’s hit that threashold. It’s crucial to get to the point were a majority of voters seem to be willing to support you. Glad to see this is moving back away from Schaffer. It can’t help, all those hundreds of thousands of dollars in ads by outside groups. Still, this one will close all the way through.
Interesting, I just thought of something. If Obama wins his senate seat will have had three one term senators in a row. Braun, the billionaire, him. That doesn’t happen often, (I discount Burr’s cursed Senate seat in NC which has not elected a senator to a second term since 1962.)
with udall the clear leader the whole race but Colorado’s conservative base making up a solid 48% vote block for Schaffer. Kinda of like 2004.
Not the greatest trait for a pollster to have. Headline at site says Udall leads by seven without leaners. The numbers posted say six.
🙂
I just hope that Udall will be able to pull away, allowing resources to go to other races like OR, MN and NC.
Udall finally breaking 50%. Let’s hope the next poll shows him past that.
