From the Atlanta-Journal Constitution:
By late Tuesday, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee had bought about $500,000 worth of advertising time on at least five metro Atlanta television stations for spots to support Democratic senate candidate Jim Martin in his uphill battle against incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Moultrie. The spots begin running today. […]
As of late Tuesday afternoon, Atlanta’s five network affiliates: WSB, WXIA, WAGA and WGCL and WATL had not received copies of the ad, which is slated to run Wednesday morning. The ad will run largely during news broadcasts and in prime time, during such popular programs as “Dancing with the Stars,” “House” and NFL Sunday pre-game show.
The size of DSCC order is substantial. At $514,950, it is much larger than any weekly TV ad buy made by Martin since of the start of his campaign. The ad is scheduled to run 369 times by next week.
There’s no word yet on whether the DSCC is airing ads in Georgia’s other media markets (although metro Atlanta is certainly the biggest), but this is certainly a good start and an encouraging sign for Jim Martin. If we hope to win this race, all of us will need to kick it up a notch.

Update: Here’s the ad:
I’m glad that the DSCC is finally coming into Georgia as Chambliss, fighting for his political life has gone out with two attack ads. But the DSCC ad buy cannot just be in metro Atlanta, it needs to be in other markets, like middle & south georgia. Martin needs to pickup some votes in middle & south georgia to defeat chambliss. Metro Atlanta isn’t going to get it done. They have to get to the other parts of the state. But it’s a good start. Plus there are going to be three debates in five days, two in Atlanta & one in Albany ( south georgia ).
could put him over the top? Anyone know if polling reflects that notion at all?
I would also guess they are going to see what movement they can get from this before dropping more. When they jumped into Kentucky, they didn’t start /w a 5 million dollar bomb.
The thing I hate about blogs is sometimes they are so reactionary. People are complaining about how 500K in the Atlanta region isn’t enough, it isn’t enough, it isn’t enough… Well who said they were done yet?
ads against Chambliss. It’s not like they are doing ads to introduce Martin to the rest of the state as Martin is from the Atlanta region. Of course ideally, I would love for the DSCC to blanket the whole state with ads but they are probably doing some seed money in the metro area to see if they can move Chambliss’ numbers. If they have success, they hopefully will move in more aggressively although the Chambliss campaign is already going negative and attacking Martin for getting outside help.
Is the Atlanta media market the most expensive in the state? In that case it makes sense for the DSCC to go in there first. Guess Martin has had at least descent fundraising since his numbers started going up?
I bet they’re going in big if they see any movement?
NRC got a $5 million loan to help their Senate candidates and NRSC just pulled out of LA. Seems to me that Georgia is going to be a huge battleground. So nice to fighting on their turf.
Maybe this is overly optimistic, but with reports of huge Obama early voting in GA, I really think we could pull this one off. And, it would be sweet to take out the execrable Chambliss!
