Weekly Open Thread: Post-Election Edition

In the diaries, longtime SSP member trowaman gives us a nice roundup of Texas election results — up and down the ballot.

And if you’re looking for the latest numbers from the undecided House and Senate races, TheUnknown285 has an extremely handy list of results pages for each race.

UPDATE (David): Some additional stuff:

• Come help us with a crowdsourcing project to compile presidential voting results by congressional district.

• Here’s another group project: compiling state legislature results.

• I think this describes us pretty well. (Hat-tip: MaryNYC)

  1. NE-2 has just been declared for Obama, giving him an additional electoral vote.  Of course, McCain receives NEs other three EVs.  Altho it has been a theoretical possibility for a long time, I believe this is the first time that a state has actually split its electoral votes.

  2. I will have a nice detailed roundup of election results back home, with the winners and losers, and what we need to improve on, since from what I’ve seen so far it looks like we need to improve on a lot back home.

  3. I wish Esch had won, but Obama grabbing the NE-2 EV is a big deal.  It is a psychological blow to the Repugs to lose an EV in NE for the first time since 1964, and it widens the playing field.  Now, they will have to spend resources in 2012 to defend it.  I’m sure this is something they never thought they would have to do.

  4. Really! What’s not to love about Nevada? Obama won by a whopping 12%! Dina Titus kicked Jon Porter out of office in NV-03! Oh yes, and Dems now control BOTH houses of the state legislature… Including a 2/3 supermajority in the Assembly! I don’t throw “the r word” around loosely, but I really think Nevada has undergone a realignment this year as it’s shifted from a “pinkish barely red state” to a “deep, strong blue state”.

So what do we do next? Obviously, we need to defend Majority Leader Harry Reid in 2010! The GOP is already after him, and John Ensign is already preparing to break the “no campaign against the other” pledge to backstab Reid. Also, I’d REALLY like for us to knock off “America’s Worst Governor”, Jim Gibbons, this time! Who would be our best candidate to do what Dina came so close to doing in 2006?

While I’m honestly saddened by all the f*ck-ups in my own home state, all the news from my next door neighbors REALLY cheers me up! So what can we do to make the BIG blue wave last in Nevada?
