CA-04: Don’t Look Now…

…but Charlie Brown has cut Tom McClintock’s lead from 1,248 to 533 votes:

Tom McClintock (R): 168,868

Charlie Brown (D): 168,335

CQ has more on this crapshoot:

McClintock’s campaign on Thursday estimated that 35,000 absentee and provisional ballots remained to be counted, and neither campaign expects the count to be completed this week. McClintock and Brown are both scheduled to attend freshman orientation next week in Washington, D.C.

The rules for vote reporting in California make it virtually impossible to get an exact reading on the number of votes still outstanding. All or portions of nine counties make up the 4th District in the state’s northeastern corner, and counties are not required to provide updates to California’s secretary of state regarding their progress in the canvass. Those counties that do report such numbers, but are divided between congressional districts, generally do not break down the number of still-uncounted ballots by district.

The McClintock campaign says that this latest batch of votes came from Nevada County, which went big for Brown on election day. They’re confidently projecting a victory for the carpetbagging blockhead, but I guess we’ll see. There are a lot of votes left on the table, and not much we know about where they’re coming from.

  1. CA-04… CA-44… OH-15… VA-12… AK-SEN… MN-SEN… I’m not sure how much longer I can take all this uncertainty.

What’s more, search it out as I might, there is NO NEW NEWS ON ANY OF THEM.

The next time I see a thread on any of these races, I want it to announce the certification of a winner… or at least a flippin’ AP call.

I swear, this feels like a third world country sometimes.

IS IT TOO MUCH TROUBLE JUST TO COUNT THE STUPID VOTES ALREADY SO WE DOWN-BALLOT GEEKS CAN FINALLY GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP!?

  2. There is no VA-12 (they have 11 seats).  Tom Perriello claimed victory on November 7 and neither of the main candidates has had a change in vote totals since November 10.  Newspaper accounts say that everybody’s waiting until the state posts official results on November 24.  Why?  I check the totals at least twice a day.  At least the California and Alaska totals change.  Ohio, Virginia, and Minnesota just hang out in limbo land.

  3. When are the results coming in from today’s ballot count? Shouldn’t they be finished already with the ones they were going to count today?

  4. If the votes were from Nevada County today, it’s dim for Charlie Brown.  There are still votes from Placer County (very GOP) to be counted.  Many of the mountain counties counts are complete.

So at least the carpetbagger has found a home!
