CA-Gov: Feinstein leads in Dem Primary (if she ran)

From Capitol Weekly/Probolsky Research between 1/22/09 to 1/25/09:

Democratic Primary:

Dianne Feinstein – 36

Jerry Brown – 14

Antonio Villaraigosa – 9

Gavin Newsom – 9

John Garamendi – 4

Jack O’Connell – 3

Steve Westly – 1

However, two factors pointed out by brownsox of Daily Kos points to the more likely scenario of Feinstein NOT entering the race: old age (Feinstein will be 77 in 2010), and her current Chairmanship of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

As for the Republican primary:

Tom Campbell – 15

Meg Whitman – 14

Steve Poizner – 4

Peter Foy – 1

With the only name I recognize as Meg Whitman, she’ll probably be the one I assume to emerge as the winner of the GOP primary, unless someone with more prominence emerges from that field.

Personally, I think John Garamendi would be a good governor, based on what I’ve read about his fight against the corrupt and greedy practices of a number of insurance companies over the years.

Other than that, it’s safe to assume that this gubernatorial seat is coming home to the Blue Team.

  1. And I don’t see how it doesn’t turn out to be Whitman vs Brown. Brown is going to be close to unstopable on the D side.  Poizner has a lot of money and elected experience but Whitman has more and higher name rec despite not serving in elected office.

And the GE will be a showdown, but I think Brown can return to power.

  2. I can’t wait to see my home state’s governorship return to the good guys, and vote for the good guys! (Depending on how soon I can move, hopefully no later than mid-May, I may be able to vote in the primary, which I’d REALLY love to do! Though right now I am undecided as to who I want to support on the D side.) And with increased majorities in the state legislature too, as I pointed out in an earlier diary is possible.

  3. If you told someone on the street she was nearing 80, they’d never believe you. Pelosi needs to stop with the botox and take some tips from her Senior Senator.

  4. He has the vision and leadership that’s needed in CA right now and a great team. I think his history of fighting for students and jobs in CA will take him to the top. Just wait. Go Garamendi 2010!
