We told you about lousy & lousier… here comes the lousiest:
Burris campaign officials on Thursday released a report showing the new senator raised only $845 from January through March and had $111,032 in debts from defending himself in ongoing ethics and perjury probes and travel.
That’s a pretty remarkable haul (yes, that’s not even nine Benjamins), even for someone as scandal-tainted as Roland Burris. One has to almost try in order to avoid raising at least some money as a sitting Senator. (What, you mean to tell me that he couldn’t have squeezed out a couple of grand out of Bobby Rush’s campaign committee?)
Burris has his first real fundraiser scheduled for this weekend, but this kind of pathetic first quarter haul may give us a window to his 2010 intentions. If he actually does intend to give 2010 a crack, he’ll be hard-pressed to keep up with state Treasurer Alex Giannoulias, who outraised Burris by over a 1000-to-1 margin in the first quarter.
(Hat-tip to conspiracy for the catch)
Congratulations future Sen Giannoulias!
Not $845,000?
I remember John Warner having fundraising figures in the hundreds one quarter, and that was right before he announced his retirement. For a newbie like Burris these numbers are astonishingly bad.
One would think this is a delayed April Fools headline.
I take credit for “lousiest”.
Okay, fine, anyone with half a sense of humor could have come up with it.
I could declare my candidacy for the Senate and get at least nine friends to chip in $100 each. That is really pathetic.
I make about $900 per week. So technically I outraised Roland Burris in a single week. Hmm… if Alan Keyes can run for Senate in Illinois without living there maybe I can to?
There are literally races for dogcatcher where candidates raise more money than Roland Burris.
I make more then that teaching summer camps. I could raise that much in less then a day.
It’s really silly season in terms of fundraising reports, Burris’s $845, Dodd’s 5 CT donors and Carnahan Smoking Blunt… In Fundraising. Can it get any better?
Not even his own family wants to give him alot of money.
Than in my saving account, that means you’re screwed!
Goodbye, Roland. Thanks for the hilarious memories.
