  2. …i am stunned by the turn of events here. i have been supporting eric massa since 06. i guess we’ll have to wait and see how this plays itself out but what a kick in the head.

  3. chatter chatter chatter…

WTF was that  music video? Is it in Italian? English as pronounced by Italians? Any chance we could recruit this guy for NY-29?

  4. I’ve been volunteering for Democrat Susan Guidry, running against Republican Jay Batt.  Batt was a councilman from 2002-2006 and did a crappy job from what I’ve heard; he was narrowly voted out after Katrina and is trying to get back in.  (Fun fact: his brother is Mad Men actor Brian Batt).

I’m at headquarters now; polls close in 20 minutes.  People are pretty anxious: expecting a close one.  If anyone’s looking for some election-entertainment tonight then watch the results come in.  We’re NOLA City Council District A.

  5. Republicans are bringing back old-timers for some of the battleground Iowa House and Senate contests. They don’t really have a chance to win back the Senate this year (Dem majority is 32-18), but they could pick up a few seats and set themselves up to win it back in 2012. In the Iowa House, (56-44 Dem majority), Republicans should pick up a few seats and may have as much as a 50/50 shot of winning back the majority this year. We have a couple of good candidates in Republican-held Iowa House seats, and if we win those we should be on track to maintain at least a small majority.

  6. From the Capitol Currents:

State Treasurer Ben Westlund lost his battle with lung cancer today. According to a statement issued by the Oregon Treasurer’s office, Westlund died this morning in Bend. Prior to being elected Treasurer in 2008, Westlund served in the Oregon legislature for 12 years–first as a Republican, then as an independent, and finally as a Democrat.

Westlund first battled cancer in 2003, then announced last fall that his cancer had returned. There has been no announcement yet on memorial services for Westlund, who is survived by his wife and two children, age 21 and 17.  In a statement, Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski said “Oregon has lost a leader, a friend and a member of our collective Oregon family, but (Westlund’s) spirit and enthusiasm will continue to inspire the best in all of us.”

    RIP.
