HI-01: Hanabusa Will Not Drop Out

Uh, everything’s under control. Situation normal:

State Senate President Colleen Hanabusa said today that she would not drop out of the special election for Congress.

“I’m in this race until the end, and I’m in this race to win,” Hanabusa said at a news conference at her campaign headquarters off Ward Avenue.

How are things with you?

  1. ref http://www.honoluluadvertiser….

State Senate President Colleen Hanabusa said at a noon news conference, “I’m in this race until the end and I’m in the race to win.” Hanabusa made the comments after pressure from some Democrats that she drop out of the race for U.S. Congress.

  2. IMHO Case’s people are encouraging the Hanabusa will/should drop out to float the idea that a vote for her is a “wasted vote”.

Fact is it is most likely a 3 way tie of a race. So she really has no reason to drop out. She got just as much a shot to win this as Case.

This talk seems like a Case campaing tactic to me.

  3. But this is no time for sour grapes. The presence of two Democrats on the ballot is the sole reason for this contest to be competitive, and Hanabusa, through admittedly unfair circumstances, is now clearly playing spoiler. Why, oh why, do these politicians so consistently put their own careers and egos ahead of their party?

  4. I’m a little surprised by just how frayed everyone’s nerves seem to be over this. This is about who’ll hold a single seat for half a year in a period with a big Democratic majority. I’d think the primary battle for the full term would be the much bigger deal because even if Djou wins it’s unlikely he’ll win the full term in November. Now if Djou wins around 50% in the primary, then I could see everyone freaking out.

  5. ballots? If they do so early, then the Hanabusa quitting thing better happen soon or it will rapidly become a mute point.

  6. Dropping out after people have started mailing in their ballots could really have backfired anyway, we could still easily lose if enough people already mailed in their ballots. And  losing bc Hannabusa dropped out too late would look a hell of a lot worse than us losing and her still in the race.

  7. Does anyone here think that the Republicans would let this happen in a million years?  Of course not – they have steely party discipline.  The D-trip should pick a candidate, back them exclusively and send a clear message to the other candidate that it is definitively in their best interests to get the &*&% out.  Regardless of the actual implications in terms of representation, losing here is a BIG problem.  The Repubs and the MSM will have a field day with “Democrats lose Obama’s home district”.  Seriously, why aren’t other people as pissed off about this as I am?

  8. I’m not 100% sure how I feel about Hanabusa anymore. Mostly because of the gay marriage thing, Case may be a Lieberdem but at least he supports that, and I don’t mean to be a single-issue voter but as a gay person it’s kind of important. also, I kind of want to see Hanabusa out of the news because I cringe every time someone misspells her name (Ha-na-bu-sa, guys! not as bad as Giannoulias or even Scozzafava.)

Then again, I live thousands of miles from Hawaii so my opinion is not of utmost importance 🙂
