  1. … or had we held the district, I think that’s pretty much exactly what an IN-08 would have looked like, as the Republicans who control the process would have given up on IN-08, and in the process creating an IN-09 that would be impossible for any Democrat to win.

Now that they hold both of the Southern Indiana seats, I’m not sure what they’ll do.  The current Evansville/Terre Haute/rural SW Indiana district as it currently is is not impossible for a Democrat to win, but tough.  I think the GOP might more-or-less leave Southern Indiana alone now.

  2. would not be very “rural” at all. You’ve included 7 cities that all probably voted for Obama, including Syracuse, which is the big one, and its suburbs but also Auburn, Oswego, Cortland, Utica, Rome and Fulton. Combined these 7 cities probably contain an overwhelming portion of the population of this district.

  3. That North Carolina district will be drawn. It both hurts Kussell and shores up Ellmers.

Still trying to figure out how the GOP can/will draw an 8-4 (+1 Shuler map). I wonder if Mel Watt’s 12th can be broken up enough and shattered into pieces.

  4. Minnesota’s 1st and 7th already elect democrats, and the 8th is a heavily-Democratic district that got fed up with a man who had been in Washington for 50 years. No sense in handing the Republicans a district in central Minnesota.

  5. That someone else out there accidentally posts draft diaries because I’ve done with at least half the diaries I’ve done on SSP.  ðŸ™‚
