  1. AR-04: Is Rep. Mike Ross begging for a primary challenge?

    My reply:

What’s the point? At this point, we’re lucky to have ANY Democratic Representatives of ANY stripe from that state. Forget it. Primary people like Lipinsky, if you can. At least he’s from a highly Democratic district, though perhaps not one that’s as liberal as we’d like to think.

I’m glad Kos is there and started his site, and there is some good reporting that comes out of it, but man, he and many of the other folks there can be so politically stupid sometimes!

  2. not because of her ideology or anything, I was just on the ohio SOS page and they have data going back to the 1950’s!  that’s a site doing its job.

  3. or perhaps the way it is used —

as it implies that we are lost in all of the states of the former Confederacy. And that is pointedly not true.

Yes, we have a significantly tougher road in LA, AR, TN, MS, and AL, but is that even 35 House members? Probably less, given the VRA.

That’s less than 10% of Congress, and people here talk as if they’re writing off a whole frickin’ quarter of the country.

  4. In a Roll Call article about Charlie Bass returning to congress, they mention that there are 5 members who are freshmen that have been there before. I got 4 of them, but I can’t think of the 5th one. I have Tim Walberg, Charlie Bass, Steve Chabot, and Steve Pearce. Who am I missing?

  5. Let’s just say I got pulled into something else yesterday…

And today, I did my annual Thanksgiving all-day cooking marathon! I have 3 dishes to take to the family tomorrow, along with a bottle of good Rose. (Believe it or not, I’m a HUGE foodie and I enjoy talking good grub when I’m not pulled into politics.)

So Happy Thanksgiving, y’all! Remember to savor the time with your loved ones. 🙂

  6. turkey day all. What pols who just got elected or re-elected are you thankful for? I’m thankful for Michael Bennet, Harry Reid, Chris Coons, John Yarmuth and Ben Chandler.

  7. about Washington’s voter turnout this election. The article from the Daily Digest said something like, because of the all vote-by-mail system Washington has, that its responsible for higher turnout. Would that really help us here in California? I really want to see way more Latinos turnout and especially at least vote, not some crappy 80k turnout in a 700,000+ district. Santa Ana has 350k residents but only 60,000 voted in 2008!

  8. Beyond politics, let’s remember that without the help of the Native Americans, the European settlers would have died out – and the Native Americans would have been much better off, at least until the next bunch came and forced their way in.

  9. Name some fairly recent (since 1981) three way races where, whether before or after the race all three candidates served in the office they where running for in that election. I can think of at least two. MN Senate 2008 and UT-2 94. How many can you come up with? No write ins.

  10. was just thinking of Dick Schweicker, Reagan’s presumptive ’76 running mate and the HHS sec in his first administration.

He was Arlen Specter’s predecessor in the Senate…. I remember being saddened in the rightward turn in the R party when Specter was elected.

    per

    http://books.google.com/books?…

Schweiker had a 100% AFL-CIO voting record…. though if I remember right, was somewhat anti-regulation, which is fine by me.

  11. In Canada we have had a social democratic party (New Democratic Party) since the early 60’s. Why haven’t you folks gone the same direction?  I don’t vote for them but they have had a strong history of keeping the liberals liberal.
