  1. Old St Paul Civic Center summer of 84. I remember Courtney Cox being pulled on stage. Great show, the Boss played for 3 1/2 hours.

  2. RRH submitted this diary to Tom Jenson at PPP

PPP’s numbers continue to put its credibility into doubt. Their polling contains some sampling problems that tend to favor Democrats and really overstate the liberal share of the electorate.

Jenson responded, essentially tearing apart the credibility of exit polls.

Republicans need to understand that it’s not 2010 anymore just as Democrats in 2009 needed to understand that it was not 2008 anymore.  I think as more companies start polling the same races we are they’re going to find very similar things.

  3. Who is the only presidential candidate to lose both his birth state and his resident state and still go on to win the presidency?

(Hint the two states have to be different)

  4. Our fave DC gossip rag notes the successes of Sharrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrron Angle, Christine O’Donnell, and Joe Miller since their respective infamous failures last November. It’s funny to see the national media catch up with the hilarious sideshow that’s been gracing Reno and Carson City for the last 12 years. 😉

  5. Tweet from MotherJone’s Andrew Kroll:

MT @matt_t1: They just announced on Madison’s Radio Station WTDY that they officially have enough signatures to Recall Hopper! #wiunion

  6. Iowa political junkies anxiously await the release of the new map on March 31. This is the first proposal from the Legislative Services Agency. Either chamber of the legislature, or the governor, could block this proposal.

Haven’t heard how much Pelosi raised for Boswell’s campaign in IA-03 on Thursday when she was in Des Moines.

Braley (D, IA-01) still playing deficit hawk, but at least he is saying something about our intervention in Libya. No one else in the Iowa Congressional delegation has issued an official statement about what we’re doing there.

  7. anyone have an opinion of him and his ratings system/punditry?  I’m going to one of his discussions and receptions next week and while i have a few questions, i was wondering if there’s anything the SSP community might want to ask.

  8. Was supposed to write a cover letter for my dream job today, but economic betterment will just have to wait.

  9. if there’s a school house rock-like video that explains reapportionment?  I have a project ad want a good visual.  thanks.

  10. He sent out an e-mail to supporters on Friday updating them on his life. Money quote:

I have been asked many times what my future plans are and if I intend to seek a return to public office. I understand that the closeness of last year’s election would naturally lead to these kinds of questions. I want you to know that I am strongly considering running again for Congress in 2012. Whatever the future may hold, one thing is clear. We cannot give up on our region or in the idea of broad-based moderate representation that takes into account the many diverse groups in upstate New York.

So far, my successor has shown no willingness to work with anyone but the hard right “tea party” faction of the Republicans, spurning even the more mainstream Republicans trying to work out budgets with President Obama. These actions have put tens of thousands of Central and Upstate New Yorkers at risk.

Given that he barely lost in 2010, I’m for a rematch (assuming the district still exists in 2012).

  11. Now, I know this might be getting too close to policy talk but how do you think the Dems like Gov. Cuomo who are governing fiscally like Republicans(the budget is all cuts and no new taxes) will be received by the base as well as the general electorate?

Also, if Cuomo can tame New York’s fiscal problems do you think he could be a viable candidate in 2016, especially if the budget deficit is a big issue in Washington?

  12. This is not about US politics, but it’s too funny not to share on an elections-focused site: in state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, the Social-Democratic SPD got 666,666 votes. 🙂

That means they received some 36% of the vote, by the way, and can govern together with the Greens, who got 15%. It does mean a step back for them, since four years ago the SPD got 45% and could govern alone.

Also, the Greens are heading for their first ever state Prime Minister – in Baden-Wurtemburg, where they will break 58 years of Christian-Democratic hegemony. This is thanks to two things: the Christian-Democratic/Liberal coalition lost its majority, failing to get one for the first time since 1992, and the Greens edges out the SPD for second place finish, with 24% to 23% and 36 to 35 seats.

But mostly I just wanted to share the trivia about a party getting 666,666 votes. Surely a first.

  13. My paper says roughly half the states are moving toward requiring a photo ID to vote.  One that caught my eye was Arkansas.  I guess under the circumstances and under the context, it needs to be said, but are people really still that racist in the South that Democrats in AR are willing to hurt their own electoral chances?

Anyone here from AR, please call up whoever you need to and inform these “morans” what they are actually doing.  Why did they even bother stressing over redistricting?  They just shot it all to shit with photo ID anyway.

  14. Arizona: Greenlee

    California: Plumas, Shasta, Sierra

    Louisiana: West Feliciana

    Minnesota: Morrison, Nobles, Stearns

    Missouri: Monroe

    Oregon: Coos

South Dakota: Aurora, Bon Homme, Brule, Charles Mix, Davison, Deule, Edmunds, Hanson, McCook, Miner, Sanborn, Union

    Tennessee: Lewis, Perry, Stewart

    Texas: Cottle

The South Dakota counties aren’t surprising given that McGovern was from South Dakota.  However, McGovern lost but Obama won Brookings, Corson, Dewey, Lake, Minnehaha (great name, by the way), and Ziebach Counties.
