Letters to members of the Democratic/progressive communities

Dear Attorney General Richard Blumenthal,

You had better learn and take to heart the lessons provided yesterday by your neighboring colleague.  In particular: (1) a gigantic lead now is VERY MUCH NOT the same as a blowout victory (or even any victory), and (2) neglect is NEVER the right way to run a campaign.

Your supporter,

Glenn Magus Harvey

More beneath the fold.

Dear Democratic Party,

I damn well hope that this costly lesson about the negatives of complacency has been well learned.

If we can win Idaho, they can win Massachusetts.

Dear progressive movement,

Stop whining about how watered-down the health care bill is, stop threatening to vote for all sorts of crazy people (on any side) against sane Democrats who can get elected (and possibly risk losing nasty districts), and start accepting political realities (remember the “living in reality” slogan?).

Stop whining about how the Obama administration isn’t progressive enough, and start asking yourself what realistic steps you can do to inch the country toward a better future.

You want results?  Be prepared to work very hard for them.  Whining and sulking do not produce results.  Do something better with your time–such as learning about on-the-ground political realities, figuring out how to use and to affect them to help your goals, coming up with productive ideas, and putting such ideas into action.

Your friend and ally,

Glenn Magus Harvey

Dear Nevada State Democratic Party and other relevant persons and parties,

Figure out a way to deal with Reid.  Both of them.  Preferably, figure out a way to get rid of both of them.

Your fellow Democrat,

Glenn Magus Harvey

Dear Senator Joe Lieberman,

You suck.

If Chris Dodd can afford to offend the insurance companies, then so can you.  So shut up.

Your detractor and former supporter,

Glenn Magus Harvey

  1. Espically the one addressed to the Progressive Movement. You couldn’t be more spot on with what you said in that letter. The other were short and to the point. Good work.

  2. It’s like, look, I’m frustrated too, but it’s so fucking dumb that so many people are saying they’re gonna raise up the white flag for the rest of the term and not try anymore. If you’re not going to do anything for 2010, could you just shoot yourself in the head, so I won’t have to hear your bitching and moaning? Either way, you’re still useless. Maybe the reason that many key figures are complacent and lacking when needed most is the fact that most activists are complacent and lacking when needed most? I’m still gonna fight, goddamnit, and I’m not going to twaddle my thumbs and watch more progressives go down in flames because of one bad year.

Also, Dave Sirota is a cunt.

  3. Don’t panic and rush to retire because a lazy candidate blew a race in Massachusetts. Yes, unemployment is high and it’s going to be a tough year, but you will still have some advantages of incumbency. A stampede of retirements will only increase GOP chances to retake the House.

  4. You have no chance. Please don’t waste DSCC resources on your hopeless race. We have a good bench in your state; take a lesson from Chris Dodd and step down gracefully.

  5. Dear Progressive Community,

Get over the “Big Tent” fetish.  Quit making excuses for conservadems.  Quit scapegoating yourself, your ideology, your organizations, and your movement.  Seek help for any Battered Person Syndrome and/or Stockholm Syndrome that gives rise to the previous point.  Stop entering into every debate already willing to give things up.  Stop being so desperate to pass something that you end up passing something politically and administratively bad.

  6. Please shut Mr. Pence before he shuts you.

    Dear Indiana Democratic Party,

Be prepared to give Mr. Pence an unwelcome-home party when he comes crawling back to a run for the sixth district.

  7. Carrots only go so far.  Now is the time to use the stick.

    Love,

    TheUnknown285

P.S. Use the stick on conservatives.  Stop using it on your own base.

  8. These are really well thought-out and very effective. I particularly like the Joe Lieberman one- it’s too bad that he’s sold out to this extent. Here’s hoping he’s challenged by a strong candidate (to avoid a repeat of yesterday’s unmitigated disaster).

  9. Dear Michele Bachmann,

I’m starting to worry that you are going to be tea-bagged in the next primary.  Certain rumors have led me to conclud that you are getting soft!  Please, please, please create some false rumors about these Democrats that are trying to improve the quality of life of people who need assistance!  You aren’t doing enough!  We can’t allow these Democrats to pass Health Care legislation because if we do, we may have to sit in the same waiting rooms with them!  We don’t have anything in common…what would we talk about?  And for crying out loud, why would you allow Obama to offer this supposed “amnesty” to these illegal Haitian immigrants?

If you don’t change your stripes, and change it soon, I’ll have to consider supporting a tea-bagger in your primary.  Challenge Olberman!  Call Obama a name!  Insult Nancy Pelosi!  And do it fast and right now!

    Your precious and unwavering supporter,

    Tarheeman1993

  10. Dear Max Baucus and Kent Conrad.

Your an embarassment to your respective states. Piss off and jump off a cliff.

    Sincerely,

    Timothy Andrews Thomasen of Pennsylvania.

  11. Let’s see, where to begin…

    Dear Democratic Party

Pull your shit together.  Our biggest strength and greatest weakness is that we are a hodge podge of varying groups in varying levels of progressivism but call the Democratic Party home because the GOP are teh suck.  Let’s stop bitching and infighting and get to some common ground.  No more scoring political points on each other, no more using each other for leverage to raise ourselves up.  We’re in this together and we need to start turning our greatest weakness back into our biggest strength.

cue cheesy HSM “we’re all in this together”,

    Andrew

    Dear Senator Klobuchar

    Be more like Al.

    lets share a hot dish,

    Andrew

    Dear Representative Bachmann

    Bitch you GOOOOOOIIINNG DOWN!

    you’re a disgrace,

    Andrew

P.S. Cant wait to redistrict you if Clark doesnt beat you.  What a treat for all Minnesotans to be the ones to boot you from office instead of just the 6th district.

    Dear Liberal Progressives,

Yeah, this sucks, and so do a lot of Democrats.  But not showing up to vote because we cant get our way public policy wise or throwing away our vote to the Green Party will do nothing.  We gotta suck it up and stop cutting off our nose to spite our face.  It’s a long road ahead and change comes entirely too slow for our liking, but that’s the reality we deal with and choosing no progress over very little weak progress is just stupid.

    I feel ya,

    Andrew
