How is it playing out in the Spanish media? In particular in the Spanish newspapers.
Totally off-topic, but I must take this opportunity to thank you, David, for directing me to the greatest babka money can buy. I’m about half-way through it at this point and it was genuinely life-changing.
District 38: former State Representative Steve “Thunder” Tumlin (R) is running for Mayor of Marietta (second largest city in the Metro Atlanta area and one of Atlanta’s blue-trending suburbs). He and current State Representative Pat Dooley (D), have traded this seat back and forth, Tumlin unseated Dooley in 2004 and she returned the favor in 2008 (albeit by like 400 votes. Although he can conceivably still run against Dooley, it would seem unlikely. If he wins his mayoral election, he would essentially have to start running a few months into his term, which would NOT look good. If he loses, he will have been repudiated twice in as many years by the voters of Marietta (which forms the bulk of the 38th state house district.
District 80: Keith Gross, the twenty-something playboy Democrat, has filed AGAIN to challenge State Rep. (and turncoat Republican) Mike Jacobs in this Northwestern DeKalb County district. The district is certainly a ripe one for us political and demographically: lots of gays, Jews, voted against the gay marriage ban, went for Obama. However, Gross got thrown off the ballot in 2008 for not meeting the residency requirements. I did a Mapquest on the address he gave in his filing, it looks to be in the district (although it looks like it may be cutting it close). Even more interesting, if you google the address, it says there’s a Sunglasses Hut there.
Iran.
WTF is going on over there? Did Ahmadenijad (sp?) corrupt the results in his favor?
Some wingnuts have threatened primary challenges against Republican state representatives and senators who aren’t effective enough in bringing anti-gay-marriage bills to the floor, but I haven’t heard about any serious recruiting on the R side.
Huckabee was in Iowa this week to endorse and raise money for Sioux City social conservative Bob Vander Plaats. Vander Plaats also has the support of a popular right-wing blowhard on drive-time talk radio. Will it be enough to carry him to a plurality? Maybe, if there’s a crowded GOP primary. I hope so, anyway, because I don’t think BVP has any chance against Governor Culver.
Where is Mark Green? Does he not have idle time in his hands?
what’s going on with that? I haven’t really heard anything about this race, other than Anthony Woods is my new favorite candidate.
So far, both sides seem to be sticking to their declarations of victory. (?) Kind of like in the NY State Senate.
When I was very young, I lived in the Cincinnati area, where I attended Maple Dale Elementary School. The principal at the time was Philip Hackett.
Since OH-02 and Paul Hackett are both in the area, I was wondering, are they related?
Paul Lewis Hackett III’s Wikipedia article says that he’s the son of Paul (II presumably) and Beth Hackett, and is married to Suzi. So Philip isn’t Paul’s dad. But could he be a close relative?
What can people tell me about the 21st CA AD ? So, you’re thinking, “this poster is crazy. It’s a solid Dem district in and north of Silicon Valley where nothing interesting politically could ever happen. Why pay attention to it?” I know that, but something interesting, on a personal level, just did. My best guy friend from college (not that many years ago, the guy’s young, ambitious, progressive, and really good) has just set up fundraising and announcements for a candidacy. He’s a former Roosevelt Institution leader out of Mountain View/Menlo Park. I wonder if he just might have a shot. I think he’s got an incredible mind, has more policy savvy than me (which is a good thing), and has some pretty amazing connections for a 26-27 year old. I’m telling everyone I know to “Vote Stinchcombe”.
R Primary for Governor in TX. Just for the reason I foresee a good knock down drag out pier six brawl.
VA Gov. What happens when the Rethugs can’t use God, Guns, and Gays against the D’s.
I’m attempting to create a map for Ohio using Dave’s Redistricting App. However, I do not know how to determine the new voting margins for the districts–something I’d like to know before I actually design the districts. Could anyone give me some advice?

Some progressives are recruiting better Democrats to run against some bad Iowa House incumbents in primaries next year. We should have at least two or three serious challenges.
