Both Dems lead Portman in OH-Sen

A new Public Policy Polling survey in Ohio finds both potential Democratic candidates with solid leads in the race to replace retiring Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH).

Lee Fisher (D) leads Rob Portman (R), 41% to 32%, and Jennifer Brunner (D) has a similar 40% to 32% advantage over Portman.

In looking at the internals, both the Dems have an even net approve/disapprove (32/32 and 32/31 respectively), whereas Portman is underwater at 22/34.

Ohio looks like a solid top 3 pick-up for now…

  1. While I think Brunner should stay at SoS for purely selfish reasons (we saw what that lowlife Blackwell was able to do when he was in control), I don’t know which of our 2 candidates will be a stronger candidate in the general for the Senate against Portman.

  2. I’m surprised that PPP didn’t do a primary matchup. Granted, there’d still be a large number of undecideds, but I would have liked to see how Fisher and Brunner fared against each other.

  3. to pull out the primary, especially considering both Dems are faring well against Portman.  I’ve never really liked Fisher, and Brunner’s done an outstanding job as Ohio’s Secretary of State.  I feel she is the most qualified for the job, anyway.  Portman’s too stained from the Bush era to win anyway, I hope.  I can’t see his favorables ever going much above 50/50 unless his campaign is masterful.  To think that my home state might end up with 2 democratic senators, what a change from a decade ago.  Nothing against Voinovich who I feel has done a phenomenal job as Governor and Senator, but I always hated DeWine and it was great to see him get his against Sherrod Brown (who once hailed from OH-13, my CD)
