This is probably good news for Bill Owens. Roll Call:
Accountant Doug Hoffman is seeking a re-match against Rep. Bill Owens (D) in 2010, after losing a Nov. 4 special election in upstate New York by approximately 3,000 votes.
In a lengthy message on his campaign Web site, Hoffman wrote he is moving “full speed ahead to 2010,” after deciding not to contest the election results, which were finalized Monday. […]
Hoffman will likely pursue the Republican Party nomination in 2010 after running on the Conservative Party ticket in the special election.
There’s no word yet whether or not Hoffman will face any competition for the nod, but there’s plenty of time for this one to shake out.

In that kind of district, we probably shouldn’t assume Hoffman has no chance, if he emerges as the Republican nominee, but Owens has already won once and has a chance to build up a record of constituent service and advocacy for the interests and needs of his constituents in legislative actions.
What’ll be interesting to see is whether someone more moderate runs in a Republican primary, and whether Hoffman beats the moderate.
I sure wish I had a link that says that… 🙂
Sure, Hoffman has pissed off a lot of people. BUT Owens broke so many campaign promises (biggest one- vote on HCR) within hours of being sworn in. That can’t help him much. He has provided Hoffman with lots of attack ads. The only person I could see hurting Hoffman would be if Matt Doheny ran.
Please, tell us, why are you needlessly subjecting us to yet another gratuitous image of Doug Hoffman? It isn’t like we haven’t seen enough of him over the past two months now.
I mean, for the love of all that’s sacred… his eyes practically go in different directions.
