OK, who goofed? Dave Weigel reports that Tim Crawford, the guy who won the Democratic primary earlier this month in IN-05, is a certifiable teabagger who seems to hate everything about Democrats and Obama.
Just look at what he’s written on his Facebook page.
So… anti-health care reform, thinks we’re all socialists, and a Tenther to boot!
How’d Indiana Democrats let this happen? Nonpartisan had me convinced Nasser Hanna, an actual Democrat, would be the Democratic nominee. Instead… we got Crawford, who handily won the primary, 61%-39%.
Ugh.
he won the primary because he has a “normal” name.
I don’t understand why people would run under a party label when they have nothing in common with the party.
…that an IN-05 Democrat is a sacrificial lamb anyway, and at least with this guy no Democrats will blow their money on him when they could spend it more wisely anyway!
Who will run more to the right? And if I’m reading right, Burton won the primary with 30%. Could Crawford actually win? Is he so far to the right that we’d actually rather have Burton?
… a few elections ago where Democrats nominated Bob Kern (he might have been calling himself Bobby Hidalgo then), a mentally unstable gay felon — so they haven’t always chosen wisely!
Seriously, don’t worry about it. It’s IN-05. Take every cliche about ultra-Republican Midwestern suburbs, magnify it times 10, and take a deep breath. Hell will freeze over before anyone with a D next to their name gets elected in that district. In the meantime, if this guy actually campaigns and meets people, he can hold Burton to a comically low re-elect number for an R +17 district, giving all the more reason for Watermelon Dan to retire and let the teabaggers all rip each others’ throats out (metaphorically speaking) trying to win the seat. Again.
For Indianapolis Dems, IN-05 is and always has been a cat fud district that we have no hope of winning, but that provides some pretty hilarious schadenfreude on both sides regardless. Relax and pass the popcorn.
