A Democratic Washington

Washington voted for Obama in the 2008 presidential election by a wide margin, 57.6%-40.5% (17.1%). Therefore I’ve created a map where all ten congressional districts have the same Obama percentage, that is the same margin he won statewide.

All ten districts are within 0.05% Obama pecentage and 500 population of the median.

  1. This doesn’t have quite the effect of the bacon strip New York, but it’s still hilarious 🙂

  2. Where you can draw a (nearly) straight line about 5 miles long and cross 9 congressional districts. Bravo good sir, bravo.

  3. And it still looks better than Maryland!

If I’m not mistaken, 9 out of the 10 districts reach into King County, correct?

  4. Even some the Snohomish Co Ds that I know dislike King County. Imagine the reaction all the way from Pend Orille and Walla Walla!

  5. This definitely rivals abgins’ baconmander. Weird to think I would be in the same district as Pend Oreille County. Pretty much a fuck you to communities of interest (in a good way).

  6. Just imagine the resentment if all 10 reps were King County dems.

Minor correction: your Obama margin doesn’t add up (57.6 – 40.5 = 17.1 not 16.1)  I’m guessing you got those numbers from Wikipedia since theirs have that same inconsistency.

  7. I never thought I would get to see 7 out of 10 districts drawn into Seattle. Or one that connects Skagit County and Shoreline, albeit while going through Spokane.
